The technology was invented by human beings so that they can save time and money and also save energy for all the efforts they make but as time passed, it becomes an addiction for human beings, especially teenagers. Even small children can operate the phone and watch cartoons by themselves. Yes, it is rightly said that without technology, the world wouldn’t be developed but technology has a darker side too.

Over the last 60 years, technology has improved in such strides that it seems virtually unrecognizable today to what it was when it started.

Technology helps the person to work efficiently and effectively and also saves a lot of time. Technology is everywhere and around us. The thing that you put in your pocket while traveling, your mobile phone is the most prime example of technology. GPS navigation, computer, internet, fan, A/C, and every other device we use in our daily lives are also prime examples of technology. Without technology, life would be dull and hard. Nowadays, countries that have more advanced technologies are developing day by day. Many companies and industries are dependent on these technologies to operate their functions and manufacture goods. People spend lots of money on buying new technology as they have advanced and better features. People are so addicted that they prefer to use their mobile phones to communicate rather than communicate face to face.

One of the most popular technological devices that are used by every person in the world is the mobile phone. People are so addicted to it that they won’t be able to spend even a single day without their mobile phones. With the introduction of applications like WhatsApp, Facebook, and other social networking and messaging apps, people started using mobiles quite frequently.

What’s worse is that now there exists a phenomenon of ‘internet addiction.’ Which is an unhealthy addiction to a world already struggling with addictions as it is. While the Internet is a great tool and can be used to make life easier, it is essential to check how much time we spend. It is harmful when individuals make their whole lives revolve around the Internet.

And just like any other addiction, it has its fair share of negative consequences and problems that can affect a person physically and mentally.

Technology addiction is equivalent to addiction to drugs and it is advised to seek professional help for curing the situation. It is crucial to regulate internet usage, and parents and guardians must be careful and aware of their children so that they don’t develop an over-dependence on the Internet. Or else the addiction could lead to dullness of the brain, anti-social behavior, stressful relationships, and an effect on career and behavioral changes. As much as it has connected us to the world, it has also isolated us.

Internet addiction has become a new age addiction that has gripped people around the world. People belonging to different age groups suffer from this addiction, though it’s more prevalent among the youth. People access the Internet to kill boredom, find a way out of loneliness, or simply to have some fun in their lives.

The introduction of smartphones has given the rates of internet addiction a boost. People are seen glued to their screens wherever they go. This becomes worse as work is done on screen as well. And in these times, you need this technology for getting an education as well.

People spend more time online than offline, which hampers social skills growth. Individuals no longer know how to interact and function normally in society. And the lack of such skills results in more avoidance, which furthers the problem and does nothing to solve it. It can lead to a feeling of isolation and even depression.

When all of a person’s time is spent on the Internet, and no time is spent walking around and going out, they develop an unhealthy sedentary lifestyle. This can cause obesity and cardiac issues. They can even become overweight, putting them at risk for stroke, diabetes, and such illnesses.

Constant use of the Internet reduces the brain’s capacity to grasp and understand new things. It drastically affects one’s attention span. The addicts have a continual desire to get back on the screen and surf regardless of what work is pending. It affects productivity and can cause behavioral issues.

The increasing use of information technology has a pervasive impact on society, including the world of work and its boundaries. Individual professionals, and knowledge workers in particular, are exposed to digital devices during the bulk of their working hours. The flipside of the coin is that, with increasing IT use due to remote work arrangements, knowledge workers are exposed to a higher risk of technostress.

Digital detox interventions have been suggested as a solution to reduce the negative impacts of smartphone use on outcomes like well-being or social relationships. Digital detox is defined as timeouts from using electronic devices (e.g., smartphones), either completely or for specific subsets of smartphone use

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us even in our soundest sleep. I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor.” ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden
