The result had shocked Indrajit so much that he could not close his eyes throughout the whole night. Earlier in January, he had cleared Prelims easily but this time in the vital main examination, he had failed. He felt entirely frustrated and thought as all the earnest efforts had gone in vain. In his youthful eyes instead of beautiful dreams, reign the darkness of failure. Tears began falling from his eyes like the drops of pearl. Finally, failure kissed him.

Morning started in a different manner. Usually, Indrajit was an early riser. But today he woke up a bit late, at 9 am. In the meantime, all in his housing complex came to know that he

had failed in the Civil Service Mains. Indrajit was not a mediocre student, he was recognised as genious from his early school life. In the secondary examination, he had secured the 9th position in the whole state. In class eight and nine, he ranked second in the school. It didn't mean that he didn't deserve the coveted first position.

He did deserve the first position. He was not merely meritorious but would toil hard day and night to get success, to prove himself, to shine brightly in life. But it had not been possible to the groupism and partiality of some school teachers and without any proper reason, they were biased toward making Samit Paul, whose father was an well-known MLA of the area, as the topper of the class. And everytime by hook or by crook, those backboneless teachers were ready to show the bias in favour of his rival Samit Paul. It was a fact that Samit's father, Mr Paresh Paul had donated a lot of money in the school fund and these teachers would recompense it to Samit by granting lot of marks(as much they can) against the half decent answers given by Samit in the answer sheet. And this hypocrisy had reached its zenith in the Test Examination prior to the Madhyamik (Secondary) Examination.

One question was "Who established Ramskrishna Mission?" In the answer of it, Indrajit wrote it was the great Swami Vivekanand who established the Ramskrishna Mission while Samit wrote it was Ramakrishna Paramhansa himself. But it was quite appalling when the 'renowned' teacher of History, Mr. Subrata Biswas ultimately marked Samit's answer as the right one and that of Indrajit, as wrong. But in spite of seeing these kinds of loathsome events happening around him, Indrajit did not break down.

With iron determination, he appeared in secondary examination. Hard work never fails. In secondary examination, he stood first not merely in school but all over the district. He knotched the ninth position in the state. The teachers, relatives and neighbours all began to praise him. In our society, there are many people who bestow favour on an affluent person. And that too did happen in this case.

All the relatives, neighbours and teachers who had previously not only neglected Indrajit's talent but even Indrajit's existence-started to greet him. Kith and kin began to congratulate him on this happy event of his life. To Indrajit, it was a real surprise. It was the false vanity, it was the hypocrisy of the society. Indrajit could sense that many of them was showing false love and respect towards him. Here and there everywhere was the disgraceful vanity, formidable falseness. The truthful teenager Indra could not stand with this kind of stigma of this society. And when the whole world seemed to be wrapped up in falseness, teenager Indra can sense true love in the warm embrace of Sulagna.

Sulagna entered in Indra's life like a whirlwind. When he first saw Sulagna, dazzling sunlight crawled into his life like a spurt of unknown joy. He could his dream in Sulagna's magical eyes, he could perceive his never-failing passion in Sulagna's soft tendril like figure. Slowly and silently infatuation turned into love. And Sulagna turned into his utmost fascination. The romance bloomed. In Sulagna's passionate kiss, Indra could feel the utmost warmth. Sulagna was Indra's passion, Sulagna was Indra's charm. They were two bodies but one soul. When frustration would grap Indra in its claw, Sulagna's moonlike face was the hope, it was the inspiration. Sulagna's curves turned into his ultimate fascination. He was living in romance. When Sulagna would be around him, everything in the world seemed heavenly! Such was the magic of love.

But then came the bad time. Indrajit was pursuing his graduation, Sulagna's marriage was fixed with an established businessman, Dinendra Saha. For Indra, the news was a bolt from the blue. He was dreaming to marry his love Sulagna after being well established, but this sweet dream was nipped in the bud. Sulagna told him that she could not go against her family. And the dream of her parents was her own dream. But Indra could not understand why for a bright student like Sulagna was, marriage could be the only dream for a girl! The dream of getting married with a rich man! Career, education, self-esteem didn't matter it all! And what about love! Was it a drama and nothing else!

Sulagna told for her parents were her God. But Indra could not bear that. Previously Sulagna had told him that if Indra could marry him, she can escape with Indra to a lonely island. Only problem was that Indra was not well established. Indra felt that family's unreasonable wish was being suppressed on an innocent girl without her own consent. After that, Sulagna stopped meeting with Indra and even after her marriage, when Indra confronted her, she behaved with him like a stranger.

But Indra was not broken down. For a time, he sank into utter despair, but he came back. He came back strongly. He topped in the university and knotched the gold medal.

But the day after mains result, Indra could sense the society to be full of vanity, hypocrisy and corruption. The Chief Minister always would hanker after the votes of the minorities, she always would behave as she was chief minister only of the minorities. And for other people of the society, she would care a fig. She always would turn a deaf ear to their demands, and always be blind to the fault of her dear ones, minorities. But masses are not only the minorities, and the masses were awakening. There were grievances, there were turmoils. The corruption and hypocrisy rose the zenith. In Civil Service Mains, only 3 percent of the total seats were alloted to general candidades, others were reserved for Scheduled Castes and Minorities, who were very near and dear to CM.

Indra had failed this time to achieve his beautiful dream. And all so called neighbours and relatives who had praising him like God till the last night surprisingly started laughing at him in the mere failure. Some of them even told Civil Service was not for him. Even Indra heard that Sulagla had told in her circle that Indra was very ordinary but he would boast about too much of his 'ordinary' merit. Indra got burnt in pain and insult. "And that is how the society is really is. The media is paid . The society is full of hypocrites. And the society always talk about the success. Relatives and neighbours only think about successes and failures. But nobody cares about the real talents, abilities and possibilities. "Indra would think this and burn in his sleepless nights.

Three years have passed. Today is the most wonderful day in Indrajit's life. Payel's unconditional inspiring love has brought colours to his life.It has rejuvenated him, made his soul free of depression.Today he has stood second in civil service. His neighbour Pranab Saha who had insulted him once for dreaming too much in spite of belonging to an ordinary family has been praising Indrajit since the result came out. There has been a change in the Government too. Today Indrajit takes the oath to try his best to make the society free of hypocrisy and corruption, falseness and favouritism. The society will be free from the stigmas. The world will be filled with the aroma of unconditional love and sacrifice.

The autumn sky is clear. The black clouds have already disappeared. Devi Maa is coming.
