The Myth Of Talos

Hephaestus worked in his forge on a defence system for Minos, the king of Crete. Ordinary mortals couldn't suffice, Crete needed Talos, the first robot. Hephaestus devised the automaton in the likeness of a giant man. He constructed him of bronze and ichor, the blood of the gods, giving him incredible strength. 

Talos would travel the perimeter of Crete, looking for potential intruders, and deter them from coming ashore. In this manner, he encountered Jason and the argonauts, returning from their quest.  Yet the sorceress Medea convinced Talos to let the argonauts ashore, in exchange for immortality. Talos, unaware of his mechanical nature, agreed.

Medea muttered incantations while Jason unscrewed the bolt that held the ichor. Defeated, Talos fell to the ground, a tear rolling down his bronze cheek.
