"Only an irresponsible idiot like you can commit such a blunder. Your apologies cannot compensate for the loss you have caused to the company.

Mr. Rishi Jagtap, you are good for nothing. Submit your resignation and get lost"

I yelled at the top of my voice.

My junior had made a transfer of Rs. 1,28,00000, when he was supposed to transfer Rs 12, 80,000. One extra zero and the difference is of Rs. One crore fifteen lakhs and twenty thousand.

The reason for this mistake is that this 24-year-old guy was chatting with his girlfriend while making the transaction.

“I am going to the coffee shop, will be back in about 30 minutes.”

I informed the peon as I left my cabin. Whenever I am upset, I usually go to the coffee shop which is opposite my office building, and have coffee. The coffee over there relaxes me. Right now I badly needed one.

Just as I stepped out of my office building a racing cycle stopped near me. The cyclist got down and to my astonishment, he took out a gold medal from his pocket, put it on my neck, and touched my feet.

“Don’t be shocked sir, I will explain.

This is my first gold medal at a national-level cycling competition. I owe this medal to you” he said.

Seeing my puzzled face he gestured me to hold on as he continued his story

“Sir about 9 years back, I was 12 years old then, my father had gifted me a bicycle and I was racing it a mad speed on the road. Suddenly I saw you coming from the opposite side. I was unable to control my cycle at such speed and I rammed it into you. Both of us fell down. I was so scared. I was expecting a severe scolding from you and maybe a tight slap before that but to my surprise, you got up, dusted off yourself then lend me your hand and helped me stand up, dusted off my clothes too. Then picked up my cycle and with a smiling face took me to the ice-cream shop nearby and bought ice-creams for both of us. There was silence for some time as we both were having our ice-creams. All the while you were calm and smiling. I was still in tears.

“Sorry uncle, I will never ride a bicycle henceforth” I had said after I had calmed down a bit.

“Why??” you asked.

“You like cycling and you like speed, all of us like speed. There’s nothing wrong with that. But there’s a correct place for everything. Speed should be on the racing track not on the roads. Promise me that one day you would achieve something very worthy in cycling and let me know that, here’s my card.” You gave me your card and walked away. I noticed a limp in your gait as you left the ice cream shop.

This proved to be a turning point in my life. I took cycling very seriously. That kind of act of yours has caused a miracle in my life. I perused cycling as a sport with great enthusiasm. I had promised myself that I would make great achievements in this sport. The journey was not an easy one but I never gave up. Last week I won my first gold medal at a national-level cycling competition.”

I recollected the incident as he narrated it. Few minutes before that incident my then girlfriend and now-wife had accepted my marriage proposal and I was feeling on top of the world when this incident had happened.

“I still have the card that you gave me that day. I have been keeping track of your whereabouts all these years. I will never be able to thank you enough sir.”

“My name is Jay Gantra," he said as he mounted his cycle.”

“Hey !! Your medal” I shouted as he was about to pedal away.

“This one is for you, sir. I am going to win many more for myself."

I noticed a tear rolling from the corner of my left eye as I saw him cycling away.

I reached the coffee shop, ordered my coffee and suddenly something crossed my mind.

I took out my phone from my pocket and dialed a number.

“Hello, Rishi....”

“Sir I have kept my resignation on your desk and am about to leave. I am winding up, will leave within.....”

“You are not going anywhere"

I interrupted Rishi.

"I apologize for being so rude to you. Come over to the coffee shop, I want to talk to you”

“ What sir ???” Rishi was shocked

“Come over to the coffee shop” I repeated.

“Yes sir”, Rishi was puzzled. Obviously, he would be.

I was feeling so light.....
