The Isolated Sisters
The Isolated Sisters
I play around here in the backyard all alone. I'm the eldest daughter for my parents, a few months later my sister arrived. We spend most of the time playing here and we kinda love each other a lot. One day we heard mommy yelling in pain, we both ran out to see what had happened. People gathered and in a while, there was a loud cry of a baby. Yeah, it was our brother Abhijeet. Mom and dad loved him so much. Every time we see him enormously petted and pampered by mom, our heart sinks in pain. We always had cravings for such a love. I now and then see my sister staring at the ground, probably looking at the seedlings and saplings which grew over her. Yeah, it was where she was buried and I was buried somewhere nearby. We only exist as souls here.
It's Jaisalmer,
a place in Rajasthan which holds a record for killing numerous female infants every year. Me and my sister are victims of this killing system. We always wish that mommy and daddy could spot us and come running towards us just to hold us both in their arms for a while. Whenever they call out Abhi's name, we both sit and talk about what names we would have had if we had lived. Maybe if we had existed mommy and daddy would have loved us like the way they loved Abhijeet and altogether we would have been a family of five.
Anyway, I pray to God that they don't bring more sisters here to play with us. We would be really happy if we spot our sister playing with Abhijeet rather than being buried like us. We love you mom and dad.
-Yours yet to be named daughters.
