The Guilt of a Murder
The Guilt of a Murder
A Mafia's son...
That is what people call me, all thanks to my father who worked with some criminal organization just to earn money and fame...
Fame.
Yeah, that's what he earned and passed on to me; the title of a mafia.
I have been known to never smile or laugh and seem to be cooking up some illegal ideas to gain popularity. But I should say, everything said about me is correct. I never smile, and there's another reason than just my father's deeds behind it.
A murder.
"Hi, Edrick!" exclaims a voice and interrupts what I'm thinking. I look up to have a view of the owner of this voice. It's Hazel.
I don't reply with anything, but she moves towards me and kisses me on the cheek.
"What the hell, Hazel?" I say.
No. I don't say that! It just spits out from my mouth.
"What?"
"I have already told you to not do such things with me," I tell her.
"Edrick, you know I love you!" she says.
"But I don't."
"Oh, come on!"
I sigh, and then signal her to leave. She leaves, and finally, I'm left all alone with my thoughts.
She is actually really beautiful and cute, though.
Ughhh... No, I shouldn't be thinking that. I'm the reason for her tears, and I cannot do that.
The tale is of about 3 years ago when an accident happened. I entered a fight with my friend, Theo, who was also Hazel's brother.
"You bloody bastard!" he shouted at me.
I raised my fist to hit him in the face.
"Don't. Otherwise, I'll tell your father about how you aren't interested in continuing your work," he said, stopping me from hitting him. I was totally innocent at heart and was never interested in committing myself to illegal work or any crime. But on the other hand, my father wanted to make it a family business. A family I don't even think he ever wanted.
Yes, my story is way too complicated.
My mother also never wanted my father to enter this mafia kind of work. So, to follow his heart and earn money to fulfill his own selfishness, he left her. After a few years, when I was old enough to understand everything, I was handed over his business, but I was aware of everything that happened with my mother. Hence, I never paid much attention to it, though I had to pretend to be working on gaining more fame.
"Don't you dare do that!" I remarked.
"Leave me, then," Theo said to me.
I did, and he gave me an evil smirk.
"I always knew that you were a coward," he said.
I raged after hearing this comment. I had my father's anger, so I lifted up my hands and wrapped them around his neck.
That's when I committed the biggest mistake of my life. A murder; a murde which I made to look like a suicide.
And now, I'm stuck in a problem. His sister loves me. Though I like her too, I'm actually the reason why she cried day and night and was herself on the verge of dying due to weak health. Now that she has improved and is willing to live her life beautifully and with a motive, I can't become the reason for her tears again. I might be hurting her enough by denying her proposal, but it'd hurt her more if she ever gets to know that I was behind the murder of her beloved brother.
I've understood now how some mistakes can ruin our whole life, and I'm willing to improve myself for the better.
