The Girl Who Didn’t Quit
Riya wasn’t extraordinary. She didn’t come from a big city, nor did she have perfect English or expensive coaching. She had something else—a quiet fire inside her. Every morning, she woke up before the sun, not because she loved mornings… but because she had dreams that didn’t let her sleep. UPSC. People around her said it like a joke— “Not for people like us.” “Too tough.” “Try something easier.” She smiled. But deep inside, every word hurt.
At home, things weren’t easy either. Her father was no more. The house still carried his silence. Sometimes, while studying late at night, she would stop… stare at his photo… and whisper, “Papa, I’ll make you proud… just wait for me.” But there were days when even holding a pen felt heavy. Days when pages looked blurred because of tears. Days when she questioned everything— “What if I fail?” “What if all this struggle means nothing?”
Her friends were moving ahead—jobs, marriages, settled lives. And she? Still stuck between books, doubts, and expectations. There were nights when she cried quietly, so no one would hear. Not because she was weak… But because she was tired of being strong all the time. Still, the next morning— She woke up again.
Picked up the same books. Sat on the same chair. Fought the same battle. No motivation videos. No perfect routine.
Just discipline and pain walking together.
One day, while revising, she paused. She realized— She wasn’t the same girl anymore. She had become stronger. Calmer. More patient.
The struggle had changed her. It didn’t matter if the result came today or tomorrow. Because somewhere in this journey, She had already won something bigger— herself.

And maybe that’s what UPSC really tests… Not your memory, But your courage to keep going when everything inside you wants to stop
