The Echoes of Aethelgard
The Echoes of Aethelgard
The kingdom of Aethelgard did not fall to swords or fire; it simply forgot how to speak.
It began with the Silent Tide, a strange shimmer in the atmosphere that swept across the continent, absorbing every sound. Swords clashed in eerie mute, waterfalls cascaded without a whisper, and voices vanished mid-sentence. Within weeks, civilization collapsed into paranoid isolation.
Lyra was the only child born after the Silence. While the elders relied on clunky hand signals and panicked scribbles, Lyra possessed a rare, dangerous gift: she could see sound. To her eyes, vibrations manifested as glowing, intricate threads of light. A bird's flight hummed in soft amber waves, while the wind wove silver ribbons through the ancient canopy.
When the sky began to bleed a violent, pulsing violet—a frequency so visual it made her eyes ache—Lyra knew the dormant Great Titan beneath the valley was waking. The elders believed the Titan was a stone mountain, but Lyra saw its massive heart beating in jagged, crimson pulses beneath the earth. It wasn't awakening to destroy them; it was suffocating under the weight of the trapped sound.
Equipped with a brass tuning fork passed down from her grandfather, Lyra struck the ancient metal against the Titan’s obsidian ribcage. A blind, blinding shockwave of stored acoustics detonated across the valley. The sky fractured, shattering the Silent Tide into a million glittering shards.
As the roar of the rushing wind and the rumble of the earth crashed back into the world, the titan exhaled a centuries-old breath of pure melody. For the first time in a generation, the people of Aethelgard heard the world sing—and learned to speak again.
