The Dove Learnt to Fly

Falguni was rushing towards the hostel entry book, as she was already late for her class. That was her 2nd day at college and she could not afford to be late. She took a deep breath and ran towards her class. Luckily her hostel was in the college campus itself, otherwise she must have missed the class. Finally she reached the class before the professor entered and occupied the 1st row as it was empty(obviously no body wanted to occupy the 1st bench in a college). Suddenly Sulagna came from no where and sat beside her. Falguni looked at her and smiled, in return she smiled back.  

" I am Sulagna, you?"

"Falguni"

"You stay in the hostel?"

" Yes. What about you? "

" Oh great. which room?"

" Room 317. You?"

" Room 303. I don't want to study Engineering. You?"

" Umm. . . I have not thought upon it. "

"I always wanted to study medicine", said Sulagna and looked at the Professor. Falguni also looked at the professor and thought how she could not sleep yesterday night. This was the 1st time she was out of her home and the hostel bed was not very comfortable, she was missing her family badly.  In the break everyone was going for snacks, Sulagna asked Falguni if she would accompany her, but Falguni refused. Sulagna went and returned with a sandwich for Falguni. Falguni was surprised with the gesture and said thanks.

She took some money from her wallet and gave it to Sulagna. To which Sulagna said," Buy me tomorrow a sandwich. " And that moment 2 strangers became friends. In the evening Falguni went to Sulagna's room and saw her reading some books. Upon asking she confirmed she was preparing for medical entrance for the next year. This year she could not make it to the medical college just by few ranks, for which she was upset. Falguni was bit upset that Sulagna might not be with her next year but she was happy that she got a friend atleast. Within very few days, they became friends for life, sharing their darkest secret each other. Everytime they used to hang together. With her company Falguni started liking her college and hostel. It is so amazing that how someone's presence can make such great impact on your life. Falguni was happy that she atleast got someone who is motivating her everyday.

But within one month of their friendship the 2nd round councelling of medical college admission started. And fortunately Sulagna got a seat finally to the medical college. She shared the news with Falguni. Falguni was having mixed feelings about the situation, she was wondering how she is gonna leave without Sulagna. She is figuring out every possible faces in the class to get along with as she was with Sulagna in that very moment. Suppressing all her thoughts going on in her mind, she said to Sulagna, " I am so happy for you Sulagna that finally you got what you dreamt off for a long time. Congratulations my dear!!!. At this moment I am the hapiest and saddest person at the same time. " Both of them looked at each other and their eyes communicated the feelings what their lips could not.

The next day Sulagna was all set to leave the college and Hostel. Sulagna came to Falguni and hugged her tightly. They made a promise to remain in contact forever. Once she left the college, Falguni was bit upset for few days. And with time she also made few friends but it did not help. All the time she used to feel as if she is caged somewhere. She needs to get away from that place, nothing appealing happened to her. She was feeling choked, she was looking at her batchmates enjoying but she could not. She was not herself, she was constantly searching for her wings to fly out of the cage. There sh

ould be something that should give her the strength to settle in her current situation. She was waiting for the right time the biggest healer. Her new friends were good but she was too reserved in her self. She did not mix with boys, she never went out for outing, she only restricted herself as she was doing to herself in her school. This was like a kind of no pain no gain policy for her, as in her school time she used this policy to get all the good grades, so the only thing she used to do is study and that's all. No enjoyment, no entertainment that to in her college life, till that day.

So it was the moment of salvation for her. One day her seniors came to her class as they were organizing their Fresher's party, welcoming all the fresher's to their branch. One senior asked to the class that there had to be two dance performance, one from the boys side and one from the girls side. So the interested participants were requested to give their names. From boys, there were few candidates but among girls, there were no one volunteered for that. As the senior asked again," Who among the girls?". Every one remained silent, then Falguni raised her hand. Everyone looked at her surprisingly, as if this nerd girl knew how to dance. Falguni did not look at any one and nominated herself for Dance. Seeing her 3 more girls said she would join her, and for the 1st time Falguni was gaining her lost confidence back. She was an all rounder in her school, and she was very good at study as well as in academics. For the first time she was feeling that her classmates were giving attention to her, and those 3 girls came to her to discuss the dance moves. The next day, they were all set to experience a new thing in their life. Falguni always loved music, dance and most importantly the stage. Once she is in stage she is just amazing, she is fully confident and she can conquer everything.  

The multi purpose hall was beautifully decorated, and loud music was playing in the background. The environment was totally different, the stage was staring at Falguni as if to give her wings to fly to showcase her talent. She was all excited and once their group performance started, she felt more liberated and free with the clappings, encouragements from the whole department. And once their dance performance was done many of the seniors came to her praising her and asking for interaction, then songs, gossips started. The mood was different, there were certain fun games, funny moments and delicious food. At the end of the function, there was a DJ night, once the music started beating loudly, everyone started to move their body in the rhythm. Initially few of her friends were reluctant to join the dance floor, but once they stepped into the dance floor, they did not stop.

Everone was dancing and dancing and there was no stop to their moves. For Falguni this was for the 1st time she was experiencing euphoria in a DJ night. Her friends were looking at her and amazed how she was dancing non stop. They even said, " we like this version of our Falguni and smiled. " Falguni smiled back and danced to her own tune. The loud music, the dim lit hall and the crazy people dancing around her as if there was no tomorrow made her feel so light as if she got answer to all her questions. For the 1st time after a while, she was feeling relaxed, as if her clipped wings were now free and the door of her cage was opened. At that moment she fell in love with her college, which cleared out her mind of doubt, fear ,suspicion and all negative toughts. Now her wandering mind settled down for the best and from that day she started enjoying around her again. And her happiness story started. . . . . . . . . . . .
