The Cab Driver Turned Left Instead Of Right, And I...
It was raining cats and dogs, and I had to go home from the job. I could not contact my father as the mobile signals were not coming and neither could he pick me up as the roads were flooded with water. I anticipated getting hold of a cab to get home, but unfortunately, there was not a single taxi or even a single person on the road.
Out of nowhere, a cab emerged, and I sat in it. I was in a predicament when I had a butcher to the cab driver. He was the spit of one of the people in the robber’s gang whom the police had been looking for for ages; I had no chance, and it was the only way that I could locomote to my home, so it was a compulsion to take a cab to home. I shepherded him the whole way. It was inevitably an intricate way to get home due to the heavy downpour. Finally, we were about to reach my abode when the cab driver turned left instead of right, and I had no idea where he was taking me.
Even though I screamed at the top of my lungs, "Why didn’t he turn right?", there was no reply. He was dead silent. I had unpleasant feelings in the pit of my stomach; I became agitated. Before you could say a knife, a gang of thieves appeared and placed a piece of cloth on my face; thereafter I was unconscious. I don’t know what happened after that. When I was aroused, I saw myself in a dark room with four robbers laughing sarcastically at me. I was despondent and abject. I gave them a doleful look.
They threw a glass of water at me; they tortured me relentlessly; I was tied with a rope to a wooden chair; I had tape over my mouth, and one of the robbers slapped me hard. When they removed the tape, I begged them to let me go home, but they spoke up, "We won’t leave you until and unless our leader commands us to." I had kittens and yelled, "Don’t you have the fear of God?" I was lachrymose, and I was constantly thinking about my family, which would be searching for me with all their sweat and blood. My heart was thumping. After torturing me immensely, when they did not get anything from me, I felt that they were willing to leave me to go home.
I don’t know what caused them to leave me at my doorstep by kicking me out of the car like a football after an entire week had passed. Perhaps they were jittery and jumpy that the police might arrest them. They ordered me, "Don’t reveal us to anyone, otherwise, we will kill your family." I rushed with lightning speed to my home; like a tape recorder, I recounted to my family what the robbers had done to me.
The police thwarted the crime and locked the robbers in jail. I thanked the Almighty, and I realised that honest people are hard to find because this world is full of deceitful folks. "Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. It’s called life."
