That Ugly Girl

Looking in the mirror and looking at myself who will tell ...............

Who will say this.......

That I am not a good-looking girl..?

She was observing her features, flaws while looking in the mirror.

Hair..... uuummmmm medium length

Colour.....black....uummmmm face.?

Not very bad but with scars..... height....5.4....ummmm..body...not so skinny...Not very fatty too...

Am I that ugly girl....?

Nobody wants to marry me...!

She goes into deep observation and suddenly tremendous thoughts rushed into her mind.

And she was completely lost in her thoughts.

 

Traditionally Women's are considered to 

look good and beautiful in order to have a successful and happy married life. Beauty is only the source or resource to attract men and for successful married life. It is the ugliest and saddest truth of society, which no one will deny.

I have seen many girls around me who got rejected just because they could not fulfill the social norms of beauty. They didn't fulfill society's criteria of beauty, so basically they are not a typical"marriage material." Awww she is so fat..she is too tall...she has short hair..she is very short, she is too skinny, she is black, Her nose is quite big...she has a Manly voice...Her walk is manly...she has facial hairs like a man,Ummmm..she is not my type,ooppsss...she is perfect at looks but she doesn't match my standard. She is illiterate.

Doorbell rings.....

And Arshi's thought process fell like water falling from glass.

Mommmmmmm.....(she stress the word)

Mom, Do I look ugly?

She knew that any Mom would never tell her daughter that she is unattractive or ugly. 

Like every "Mother India" she said "My child,

There is a stain in the moon to remember this,

Nobody is perfect in this world. You are beautiful in your own way.

She asked Mom tell me one thing,

If nobody is perfect in this world then why everyone is running behind in getting a perfect partner? who will marry me with my imperfection? Society doesn't accept imperfect girls like me. Is that my mistake?

(Tears rolled down from the eyes of mother)

Arshi continues.......

We all are trapped in social norms of beauty,

In fact, not only me but there are the majority of girls who are victims of such norms.

What is my mistake Mom?

I am not beautiful as Traditionally beautiful looking girls. Can't I enjoy the same status as the beautiful girls enjoy in society.?

What is my mistake Mom.....?

Mom said, "No my sweetheart....don't say like that, it's not your fault or mistake. The beauty of the heart is more precious than the beauty of the face.

Mom pacifies her.

Beauty attracts.........Mom

Beauty doesn't need any evidence or proof.

Beauty itself is evidence. Said Arshi.

Silence prevailed in a room.

Mom did not have answers to Arshi's questions. She was feeling helpless as she can't make her daughter look beautiful, she thinks it is a creation of the Almighty we can not make any changes or we can not modify a person.

I am helpless my child....talking to herself.

Like every Mom in the world, she always tried to bring all the happiness in Arshi's life but her fate was bringing more challenges to her.

The next morning Arshi decides to go to her granny's house. she packed her bag and moved from the house. She spends her quality

time with grandmother.

Arshi's grandmother was also a black, unattractive lady who got rejected by many men of her time.

Arshi asks her granny.....

Ammi tells me one thing how grandpa chooses you, he looks so handsome, smart. He is educated. He was a successful doctor of his time.

Grandmother replied,

"He was a first man on the earth who decided that He will marry that ugly girl whom no one wants to marry, whom no man wants to give a position of a wife".

Arshi looks at her grandmother in wonder and asks do such people exist in today's world?

Grandmother said Yes my darling,

Almighty says in Quran that " And we created you in a pair"

You are also created with your life partner my doll.

These holy words heal Arshi from inside and she collects all her strength together.
