“Mom, are you watching Republic parade now?” My son Sonu rang up from Goa.

“Yes, dear son, we are all watching it on TV now. Your Dad, sister and brother-in-law are also with me. How could I miss Republic Parade? Do you remember how we used to enjoy watching it since your childhood?”

“Yes Mom, I wanted to be with you all, but what to do? We couldn’t come there this time. Do you know Mom? Snigdha is also watching it with me. Your daughter-in-law is also fond of Republic Parade”.

“Excellent! Aakhir bahu kiski hai!”

“Yes, that is right. Mom, I remember how Dad used to explain everything to me. I always wanted to join Army. But my fate was to be an MBA graduate and join a multinational company. But I am happy with the present position of Vice President of this company. Mom, I will call you after this function.”

“OK, dear.”

I was glad that my son still remembers his childhood. After all, these small things are important in our lives…. memories to cherish forever.

After the Republic Day function, we spoke about that in detail. Being officers from Army, both my husband and me are proud to watch the Republic Day Parade every year representing the power of the Armed Forces and the diversity as well as traditions of our country. This time there were many special and memorable aspects of the spectacular 74th Republic Day function. President Droupadi Murmu took the salute when Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force along with the other Security Forces and Para Military Forces marched past from Kartavya Path, formerly known as Rajpath. A spectacular flypast and Air Display were there by 50 Aircraft of the Indian Air Force. There was the debut march of women riders on BSF Camel Contingent. I was much impressed by the tableaus beautifully decorated and representing various states and our cultural heritage. Vande Bharatam, the Nritya Utsav representing the theme Nari Shakti showcased by the Ministry of Culture and Defence, was awesome. This time on Republic Day, the focus was on our rich and famous culture, unity in diversity, women empowerment, and self-reliance initiatives of the New India. "Our National Flag does not fly because the wind moves it. Our Tricolor flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it." -I thought that this saying is true. As we are celebrating Republic Day, let us remember with respect those brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our nation.

I am proud to be an INDIAN! JAI HIND! JAI HIND KI SENA!
