'Good morning. How are you?’

‘Fine.’

‘How wonderful! I’m Reesha Cheems from the CDI, and I will be the one handling your investigation. Why don’t we start with your name?’

‘Ben.’

‘Ben ….’

Ben gives her an unimpressed stare. She laughs apologetically but doesn’t back down. He wonders if she knows he only needs a spoon to gouge her eyes out.

‘Fiddlefire’ he answers tiredly. She seems like she’s take too much effort.

‘Ben Fiddlefire! Thank you for that. You must understand Mr.Fiddlefire, that I’m not trying to irritate you or anything of that sort. It’s just that all of this is recorded,’ she tapped the small metal box on their table. ’So I have to let you answer all the questions. The quicker the questions are answered, the sooner you are free to go back, so I ask for your cooperation.’ The Reesha lady says, her hands folded. For some unknown reason, his heart has softened. He sighs and nods. A moment of weakness.

‘Great! So as I understand this, you were arrested two days back for the murder of three people and bodily harm to thirty seven.

‘Yes.’

‘So you confess to it?’

‘Yes.’

‘Was there any reason to those mishaps?’

Ben cannot contain his dimpled smile at this. ‘They were all mine.’ He watches with glee as he sees the lady’s face pale. ‘Is that it? Or is there something more?’

‘That is it,’ he assures her, and enjoys the rest of the colors leaving her face.

There is a long silence after that.

‘Well,’ the lady says, when he doesn’t stop smiling. ‘I think that’s enough questions for the day.’

And Bell Fiddlefire is alone again, just like how he is after every killing.
