Mom pointed to me smiling apologetically, and I could hear her say, ‘..my daughter here..’. I grinned on que, the lady smiled back nodding absently.

‘Ginn, give me a weight,’ a tinny voice said. It was Charle. His voice was calm, but there was a weight to it. What was wrong? Why couldn’t he tell me?

I quickly pressed my earphone to unmute it. ‘Why do you want it now? I’m at a function right now. Can’t you just wait till I’m there?’

‘And how long will that take?’

‘About an hour or two, not much’

‘An hour.. ginn we don’t have that much time.’

I swallowed down my anxiety. ‘Why? Didn’t you wait for eight hours in the last mission?’

‘It’s not like that’

‘Or when you waited four weeks to promote me-’

‘Ginn nows not the time.’

Charle stopped talking.

The lights were rolling and seats were filling up. The event would start in about fifteen minutes. I could make a two minute trip and be back.

‘Mom I think there’s something in my eye can I go to the washroom.’

She looked unsure.

I rubbed my eye and blinked.

She sighed. ‘Just make it fast.’

I tapped to the washroom, waving to the lady I’d met earlier, and locked myself into the first stall. I twirled my phone and broke it.

There was a grey light in front of me that coalesced into a thumb sized whirlwind.

I tied my hair up and jogged in place, getting ready for transformation.

‘Just wait I’m almost there,’ I muttered.

The whirlwind engulfed me and I was in a new world.

There were limp hands on the floor. Debris and dust was yet to settle. The sky was maroon with black and grey clouds.

It was war
