My Granny and her kindle love

It was my granny's 75th birthday and I wanted to present her with a unique gift, something she could cherish.

My thoughts wonder around so many possibilities, like a fridge, a new LED TV.....Yes...that is fine. Oh! But she already have one, a dress may be...NO. Then what...as I was surfing on my laptop searching for a gift on Amazon...an add caught my eye...and that's it...Granny will get a kindle reader. She loves reading and she has been complaining about the difficulty she has been facing in reading the small letters in books. Yes, I think she will love this and I order a kindle for her, click her address and what a luck...it will reach exactly on her birthday.

Mrs Nitika, my granny is a crowd favorite and she enjoys her life to the best and tells people around to do the same. Her favourite line to a person in sad mood is, "God only tests the person, whom he thinks can take pain". She lives in our Native village near Chandigarh at her farmhouse, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Due to the pandemic Carona, we could not visit her, as we are staying in Hyderabad, due to my father's job. I call her first thing in the morning to wish and she as usual is full of joy and happiness. I tell her about her gift and her first reaction is, What is kindle, you know I don't like these gadgets, you could have send some good books to me, like Rabindra Nath or Abdul Kalam's biography, or may be 50 things to stay happy kinds. I told her to please try once for my sake and she agrees, as always.. and I promise her that I will add all the books she wants.

My cousin Ronit, helps her linking to the net and make her profile. It takes a week for her to get a hang of it but she finally succeeds...and as I promised I added her favourite books in her kindle.

Slowly, she likes the feel of kindle - light weight better to carry around in her purse....she need not carry the heavy weight of most of the novels she reads...and guess what she can read her favourite book waiting for her turn to withdraw her money from bank. She loves the feel of reading a book while travelling in a cab. She calls me one day and said you know the best part she liked is the fact that the font size can be increased as much as she wants and now she can read without her glasses too.

The other day, Mrs Tanushree her friend was boasting about her niece, that she has sent her 10 best sellers and she is loving them. Granny quick to launch responded by saying that her grandchild (me, of course - feeling proud) has gifted her a million books, and showed them her kindle. Few of her friends started saying that, in this age it's difficult to get into gadgets. She then told them the advantages -

1. Read as many books as you want ..

2. Light weight - easy to carry anywhere and everywhere, even while taking bath in her bathtub, she could read - water proof, you know.

3. Very rarely she use her specs and showed them how easy it is to increase the size of font.

4. No need to carry a dictionary - it has one inbuilt and it's easy to learn new words.

5. Oh! Not to forget I can read all 10 best sellers at the same time without worrying of carrying it on my vacations or restaurant or shopping giggling at Mrs Tanushree (fondly, though).

The list was endless and she managed to convince all of them to buy a Kindle too - and if they don't have then probably they are old now (laughing).

And showing her new-age aroma, just folded her kindle with the cover having her favourite photo with Khushwant Singh, when she met her at a Shimla hotel long back . This cover Ronit got it made for her.

My granny never forgets to carry her Kindle and does not waste a single minute to read...and always remembers to thank me for this lovely gift and I proudly say, My granny and her kindle love.
