My First Period Story

My First Period Story

I'll never forget the first time I got my Periods. I had just finished my sixth standard's final exams and used to go to a Dance class for filling my summer vacation days.

One fine evening, while returning home I was feeling something awkward with myself. Gladly, I had worn a blank dress so it wasn't visible to the world. As soon as I got home, I rushed to the washroom and saw 'blood'. I was scared, at first, I thought it's because of dancing too much or maybe I fell down somewhere. And even a funny thought that I have 'Cancer'. I changed and got fresh, thinking this might stop. But after hours of contemplating and fighting my thoughts... I told my Mom, and she explained everything. I took a sigh of relief!

I was comparatively very small when this started. Years later, I used to see girls who got their periods at the age of 15 or 16. Those girls used to lose their mind but often were surrounded by girls who were well-equipped with what to do and how to comfort them.

I believe every small girl should be taught about the natural process of their body at a young age. Without making them insecure, embarrassed or afraid about it. We as a society should also help younger boys, and girls as well to learn and not laugh when we discuss real issues, otherwise, girls will just be making it a hidden hush-hush topic - which it totally isn't!

My thought is - A girl shouldn't be panicking when she enters a new phase of her life! Instead should be nurtured with awareness, so she grows bold enough to be herself!
