Long and Short of her

At last, it was time. I had to leave my ‘Bestest’ friend.

“Are you sure ? ” asked mom.

“Am I sure? ” I asked myself.

“Yea...h, Yes.” my voice cracked.

“Well then, catch! ” said Dad as he threw the keys towards me.

I made my mind and changed my clothes. Dragging myself towards the door, I pushed it open.

Rushing out, I realized the sun was shining dimmer than usual, my eyes took time to adjust. I could see my little companion laying on the dark grey road in the parking lot. As I got closer to her pale blue body, I drew back each story associated with each scratch I noticed on her.

With a sinking heart, I crawled towards the driver’s door of my car. “ Creek! ” I pulled the door open. I sat on the seat and recalled the experiences I had with my ten years old shadow.

Setting my foot on the clutch and my hand on the gear stick, I remembered the day I met her … a bit excited and a bit nervous too. My hands trembling to hold her. My feet trembling to stand straight. My lips trembling to decide whether to smile or cry.

Accelerating the car, memories of my picnic with her made my cheeks blush. Memories of traveling with the rivers. Memories of crossing the highest motorable bridges. Memories of surviving heaviest rains, far from our house.

Green trees and various shops passed. I wished the clock to turn into a snail. The steering turned towards the same road which she, my father and I had seen a lot. The road to my school. Five years ago I used to go to school. The traffic motivated me to stop for a while. I redrew myself yelling at others when I and my comrade were in a hurry.

I raced my machine and continued to think about the sweet moments I had with her.

Taking the next turn, I took a deep breath. I had reached there. My foot flew for the break and my automobile stopped. I saw the person I already met a few days earlier. He approached me and greeted, “ Hello, Clotilda! ”

“Hi,” I replied.

I got down the motor and uttered, “Enjoy your time with her.”

“ Yes… sure. Thank you,” he said.

After the formalities, she was his. I ran towards her and waved, “ Bye MY WagonR. I will miss you… ”

I felt as if she replied to me saying that she will miss me too…

Returning back, I concluded my car’s GoodBye journey was too short and difficult to recall all the pleasant long journeys with her.
