Lockdown Diaries - A Tribute

Lockdown Diaries - A Tribute

Dear Diary,

In times like these, everyone is working from home. Maids are also asked to take time off. But doctors, nurses, and pharmacists are still working to protect us. To express gratitude, we all clapped at 5 pm. But what about watchmen and security guards? All my friends are posting on Facebook that they gave holidays to their maids. But my building watchmen are still on duty. Doesn't he deserve to be protected from this virus? It seems like no one cares about this question. The building people are so worried about their own selves that all they want to do is protect themselves. The housework can be managed but they need the watchman to ensure that outsiders don't enter the building. In Oman, we didn't have any watchman. We just had a caretaker who looked after the building and was provided accommodation below the building itself. But in India, people need watchmen. If the country is in lockdown then why do we need these watchmen? If everyone is sitting at home then who are these watchmen watching? It's unfair to call these people at work and risk their lives simply because we don't have faith that people will follow rules. My brother is a pharmacist. He has a shop where he is working with the entire family to take care of anyone who needs medication. By keeping his shop open and by allowing the family members to work with him, he is taking a risk of infection. I have another brother who is a doctor.

He goes to work every day with a mask to treat patients who are in an emergency. He has two daughters, yet he is taking a risk by doing his job despite the fear of getting infected. Lockdown or no lockdown, these people have to work. They are doing this not for money, but to ensure that people don't die because of a lack of medication or the right treatment. They wear masks and go to work every day to fight this disease, to provide medical supplies and to help the infected recover. It's said that heroes come in a uniform with guns to protect us. But my building watchman, my brother Varun Doshi who is a pharmacist and my brother Sameer Sahasrabuddhe who is a doctor are ordinary men doing extraordinary things in this situation. These people are the unsung heroes who wear a mask and work hard to protect us. They don't carry guns yet their contribution to the present situation is valuable. For the sake of these people, please follow the rules of the lockdown and stay at home. By staying at home, each one of us will contribute to ensuring the safety of our families and our heroes. It may be boring for now but we have to win this fight against coronavirus together. We are in this together after all. Please like, share, comment and follow me on Story mirror.
