One day I went to the market with my mother. Literally speaking, she dragged me along with her. I was lounging on the sofa, re-reading Harry Potter for the millionth time when she ordered me to come with her to buy vegetables.

While my mom was scolding the shopkeeper for selling bad-quality vegetables, my eyes caught a man standing near us. I wondered who this was. I was so sure that I had seen him somewhere( his back was only visible), when he suddenly turned to take his purse from his back pocket. I got a clear view of his face. I froze as I felt the ground shift beneath me. It was Abid Rahman.

Abid was my best friend cum crush in school. One day, one thing led to another, and Abid confessed that he was in love with me. Ours was an epic love story. Meeting at weekends with an excuse of 'combined study ', glancing at each other during class, all was there. Our beautiful days came to an abrupt end when my parents came to know of our relationship after our 12th boards. Due to religious differences, our parents opposed our relationship and I was strictly forbidden to meet him again.

Suddenly my mom thunders at me, "Parvati, what are you dreaming? Give me the bag". Abid suddenly turns towards me and looks at me. I am sure that I will never forget the expression his face that day.

And while I was trailing behind my mom, I wonder whether he has gotten over us and those days. I clearly haven't. I am not a big believer of God, but I can't stop wondering if it was him who made us meet again, hinting that religious differences don't matter in love. And as someone said" Everything happens for a reason. It might not make sense now, but someday it will". I guess our breakup happened for a reason too and someday it will make sense, but as of now it doesn't.
