Invisible Rainbow of the Heart
Invisible Rainbow of the Heart
The final school bell rang, but Babu’s heart was already thundering like a storm inside his chest. Babu — the quiet, book-loving boy of Class 9 — stepped out of the classroom with only one name echoing in his soul: Munu.
His best friend. His shadow since childhood. The girl who had followed him with innocent eyes and sweet demands. But now, that childhood bond had bloomed into something fierce, painful, and breathtakingly beautiful. Her smile made his heart ache. Her voice sent shivers down his spine. Her presence had become his addiction.
Today, as he walked home, he saw her ahead — her long hair dancing in the wind. His heart screamed in silent agony: Tell her today, Babu… or this love will destroy you from inside.
Suddenly, the sky darkened dramatically. Heavy rain poured down as if the heavens could no longer hold back their own emotions. Munu quickly took shelter under an old banyan tree. Babu ran to her, completely drenched, breathing heavily.
“Munu…” His voice cracked with years of hidden pain and longing.
She turned around, her eyes wide with surprise. Raindrops clung to her eyelashes like tears. “Babu… you came?”
He opened his umbrella and gently pulled her closer. Under that tiny shelter, with rain roaring around them, the world faded away. Only they existed.
Babu stared into her eyes, his chest heaving with emotion. His voice became raw, trembling, and intense:
“Munu… I can’t pretend anymore. I can’t call you just my best friend. Every single night I lie awake, tortured by thoughts of you. Your smile haunts me. Your laughter echoes in my dreams until I can’t breathe. When you’re away even for a moment, my heart feels this unbearable emptiness… this crushing pain I cannot explain to anyone. I’ve tried so hard to suppress it, but I can’t anymore. Munu, I’m madly, desperately, completely in love with you. You are not just a girl to me — you are my peace, my happiness, my entire reason for smiling. I love you so much it hurts… I love you with every broken and healed piece of my heart.”
Tears welled up in Munu’s eyes, mixing with the rain on her flushed face. Her lips quivered as she finally let her heart speak after years of silent suffering:
“Babu… do you even know how long I’ve waited to hear this? I’ve loved you since we were children. Every time you read your books, I would sit quietly just to watch your face. I prayed every night that you would one day look at me the way I’ve always looked at you. I was so scared… terrified that if I confessed, I would lose you forever. But I can’t hide it anymore. You are my first love, my only love. Without you, my world feels colourless. I love you, Babu… I love you so deeply that even the rain feels warm when I’m with you. Please… never leave me.”
Babu’s eyes filled with tears. Overwhelmed by her words, he gently cupped her face with both hands, his thumbs wiping away her tears.
“Munu… my Munu…” he whispered hoarsely, his voice breaking, “You have no idea how much I belong to you.”
He leaned in and placed a slow, tender, deeply emotional kiss on her forehead. Munu closed her eyes and wrapped her arms tightly around him, burying her face in his chest as sobs of pure joy escaped her. They stood there, clinging to each other, hearts beating wildly in perfect sync, rain pouring around them like a blessing.
After a long moment, the rain softened. A magnificent, glowing rainbow arched across the sky.
Babu held her hands tightly, looking into her eyes with infinite love and said passionately:
“Munu, this rainbow is proof that our love was written in the stars. From today, I promise you — I will stand by you in every storm, every sunshine, every happiness and every tear. I am yours completely… body, heart, and soul. I love you beyond words, beyond time.”
Munu smiled through happy tears, pressing her forehead against his and whispering with all the love in her heart:
“Babu… I am yours. Only yours. In this life and every life after. I love you more than I have ever loved anything. You are my home… my forever.”
Hand in hand, drenched in rain and wrapped in pure, intense love, they walked home slowly — two hearts that had finally found each other.
