“What-what are you doing?” He let out a nervous chuckle, trying to side step the man who stands in front of his destiny. “Ace..get out of my way.” He tries to gently nudge him, but Ace doesn’t move. His eyes trained on his friend, never once leaving him.

“Why?” The intensity in Ace’s eyes render him speechless, he opens his mouth only to close it. “Why should I move Val?”

“Because it is time.” Ace’s gaze narrows, the only sign of emotion so far to cross his face. Taking a deep, shuddering breath, Vale doubles down. “Because it is my destiny.”

“So what?” Ace scoff, arms folding across his chest, words dropping venomous intent. “Who knows what of destiny. Perhaps this is mine.”

“What do you mean? Stop being weird and just get out of my way.” With more force, he shoves Ace out of the way, staring at the suspended blue crystal, begging to be held, begging to be taken and used. Ace grabs his arm and turns him around in a fluid spin, the brilliant blue glow is blocked from Vales gaze once more and his cheeks heat up as his blood boils. “What the fuck! Stop being a dick!”

“No.” Ace doesn’t raise his voice or let it flow with emotion like Vale does. “Maybe this is my destiny, Val. Right here. Between you and that thing.”

“That thing, as you so eloquently put it, is the only thing that can help us.” Vale searches Ace’s eyes for any sign of a reason for his actions. His mind looking back over their laughs, over the nights they spent together, searching for the hints of his betrayal. “We both know what needs to be done. Now, please, step out of my way and let's end this.” Vale takes Aces hand and bring their scarred knuckles to his lips, planting it with feathered kisses before once more going for the glowing stone

“Why does it have to be you!” Ace shouts, halting Vale in his tracks. “Why do you have to sacrifice everything for them?” Ace clings to their hand, not wanting them to get any closer to the object of his fears and desires. “Why is it always you? For once think past duty, think past everyone else. Is this what you want?” Val turns to them, tears welling up in his eyes. “What do you want?”

Val sighs and walks over to Ace, resting his forehead against his lovers. Ace gently cups his face before resting his hands on Vals arms, gently squeezing them. “Leave with me. We can survive, someone else can do this. Just come with me.” For a moment, for a brief moment, Ace’s voice cracks and his vi

sion blurs with unshed tears.

“I have to do this,” Val whispers, cupping his cheek. Ace leans into his touch, releasing a shutting breath.

“I know,” he lets his eyes close as a few tears spill down his cheeks. He feathered kisses onto their forehead and cheeks. “I know.” Finally he gives a light kiss to Vals lips, his hands squeezing him tighter. Val winces at the sudden pain of it.

“Acerion?”

“That’s why I have to do this.” He leans in close to Vales ear and whispers a quick, “forgive me,” before lifting his lover and throwing him across the room as much as he could without hurting Valerian, which isn’t far. Before he could think to regret it or Val has a chance to gather his senses, he reaches out and grabs the stone.

“Acerion!” Val scrambles to his feet, but it is too late. An earth piercing scream rips itself from Ace’s lips as a white hot pain encompasses their body. The blue light once connected to the stone fractures into pieces. Each piece throws itself to Ace, piercing his flesh and absorbing into his body until his whole being is bathed in the light. The agonized scream only continues as if he has an unlimited amount of air in his lungs that will allow him to scream for centuries. “Ace!” Val tries to reach him, pushing past an invisible force intent on keeping them apart. Visions of Ace fills his mind, laughing, kissing, loving, sleeping, hell even images of him angry fill him. “Just let go! You can’t do this!” Almost as soon as the words left his mouth the light leaves Ace and his limp body is suspended in the air. “Acerion!” The forcefield, now gone, allows Val to run over to him.

Almost as soon as Val gets close, Ace’s now green eyes fly open, his muscles stiffening. Ace looks over at Val and narrows his eyes. Val stops in his tracks and watches as Ace lowers himself to the ground, their appearance changing before his eyes. Their once black hair now has streaks of white, their tanned skin has turned into a sickly gray with lines of black tracing their veins. Long gray horns swirled with black have grown out of their forehead and curve back to their head.

Ace looks down at his hands, flexing his fingers as a smile grows across his face. Power fills his veins, a strength he has never felt before. He pops his neck and lets out a low groan, all tension leaving his shoulders. “What have you done?” Val flinches when his green gaze lands on him. The feeling of helplessness swallowing him as he looks at his former lover.

“I have saved you, Val.”
