Enigmatic - Widow's Love

"Please come in. " She said.

"No I am fine outside. " He said standing at her doorstep. The army uniform suited perfectly on his well toned body.

He handed over the money envelope to her. Her whole body shivered as his hands touched hers while he gave her the envelope.

"I insist to come in and have a cup of tea otherwise I will not accept the envelope ." She said while hiding her trembling hands inside her dupatta. He had no option but to step inside her home. He sat on the sofa uncomfortably. She came after few minutes with tea and snacks.

"Why do you come every month with this money envelope ? My widow's pension is deposited in my account by the army. I don't need this money. Still you come every month. Why? " She asked. Her heart was pounding fast that she could actually hear her heart beat .

He looked at her blankly as his thoughts froze for few moments.

"Let this question be unanswered." He said.

" I want to know otherwise I will not accept this envelope. " She said exuding her determination calmly.

He felt intensely thirsty as it was difficult for him to articulate his emotions. But she had given him an ultimatum.

" Your husband was a brave man and his valor will remain in my heart for lifetime. He died in my arms fighting at the war front." He sighed swallowing hard. His tight chest dropped a bit in sorrow.

"Go on I am listening. " She said with a choked voice. Tears floating in her eyes were just about to fall down.

"At his last breath, he took a commitment from me. "

"What commitment?" She asked staring down at her empty palms.

"He was worried for you. He wanted me to see you every month. He took a promise that I will protect you whenever needed. This money envelope is an excuse. I actually come only to see whether you are fine. I am your protector."

"Oh !! So you think you are my saviour? And how do you come to know whether I am fine?" She asked blinking her eyelashes rapidly.

His eyes widened as he openly stared at her beautiful face. He knew he was trapped today. He had to answer her question.

"Your eyes. " He said taking a deep breath.

"My eyes? " She asked. Her face blushing with joy.

"Yes its magical , but I just come to know your emotions just gazing in your eyes. They are so expressive ." He said and turned away from her to avoid eye contact.

No one had ever appreciated her eyes in the way he did. She suddenly felt she was the most beautiful woman on this planet.

"You know I wait for you every month. " She asked as she quickly glanced at him.

"Yes I know ." He said and got up hastily and handed over the envelope to her.

"I hope you don't mind accepting this now?" He asked. He held her hands and handed over the envelope to her and left calmly.

She sat on her sofa and gave a deep gratifying sigh. The warmth of his touch spread throughout her body. She embraced herself as she wanted to cherish their beautiful enticement.
