Chapter 2 - Exploring the Basement

At the town's library basement...

Characters: Edward, Lily, Charles, Steve, Christina

As Edward and his friends enter the basement, they notice old bookshelves and books covered with dust, along with spider webs all over.

Edward: "So, here are old books."

Steve: "I can find a good collection of old poetry books here."

Steve starts looking for books containing old poetry.

Lily: "This place looks like no one has been here for a long time."

Edward: "That can be a reason why many people don't know about this basement."

Christina: "Yeah, maybe."

Charles: "Whatever, this place just contains boring old books."

Steve: "Hey, they are not boring, man."

Charles: "Yeah, yeah, a poem lover will always say that."

Edward notices an old journal.

Edward: "Hey, there's an old journal over there."

Edward picks up the journal and removes all the dust and spider webs from it.

Edward: "It's of someone named George Hailey."

Lily: "Hey, maybe I know that person."

Steve is busy searching for his old poetry books.

Christina and Charles are exploring the basement.

Lily: "Let me think... Yeah, I remember him. This boy disappeared a few weeks ago, and his missing news was published in Hillwood's newspapers."

Edward: "Yeah, yeah, I remember."

Charles: "Hey, guys, what are you two talking about?"

Edward: "This is the journal of a missing boy, and now the question is, how did this journal end up here?"

Charles: "Maybe that boy came here and by chance left it here."

Lily: "Yeah, that can be a possibility."

Edward: "Maybe."

Christina calls everyone with a shout.

Edward, Lily, and Charles come to her.

Christina: "Hey, guys, I found a journal here."

Edward: "Whose is it?"

Christina: "Alan Harvard."

Lily: "Hey, this guy is a senior of ours, isn't he?"

Charles: "Yeah, this guy was famous among girls and the best player on Hillwood's High School basketball team, but suddenly, he stopped coming to school."

Christina: "Every girl had a crush on him."

Edward: "Something must have happened, as I found George's journal, who went missing four weeks ago, and now we have Harvard's journal, who also has no news of his presence."

Lily: "Maybe he too went missing."

Charles: "So, after all, there is this mystery to solve."

While Steve was searching for his books, he found a stone that wasn't normal in appearance. He kept it inside his pocket.

Edward: "Who knows Harvard's house?"

Christina (in a sudden and loud voice): "I know. He lives at Park Street House No. 215."

Edward, Charles, and Lily stared at Christina for her behavior.

Christina: "What? Why are you guys looking at me like that? Oh, come on, every girl has a crush on him, and so do I."

Edward: "Yeah, a popular guy."

Christina: "Anyway, leave this matter. Let's go to his house."

Edward: "Yeah! (shouts) Hey, Steve, let's go."

Then they hear two people's conversation just above the basement.

Person 1: "Hey, the basement gate is open. There must have been someone who entered it."

Person 2: "We have to find them, or else the boss will be angry with us."

The two persons enter the basement.

Edward: "Everyone, hide fast."

Edward and his friends hide.

Phone rings for person 1.

Person 1: "Hello? Yes, sir... Okay, sir..." (puts the phone away) "Hey, let's go back. The boss is calling us."

Person 2: "Okay, but someone must have come here, I guess."

Person 1: "We'll find out about it later."

Person 2: "As you say."

The two persons started departing from the basement. As they exit the library, they notice two cycles fallen in the nearby field. They understand someone must have come here and take photos of the two cycles.

They depart from there, and Edward and his friends come outside.

Steve: "Who were those guys, and did you all listen to their conversation?"

Christina: "Yeah, and it seems that we are not allowed to enter the basement."

Edward: "Something is going on in the shadows of this town. We must find out."

Christina: "But how will we do that?"

Edward: "We will think about it tomorrow. Now it's already dark outside; it's already 7. Let's go home, and we'll all meet tomorrow at the town's museum at 10 am. Bring that journal of Harvard with you, Christina."

Christina: "Okay, I'll bring it."

Edward and his friends depart from the library. The chapter ends.
