It was a gloomy evening. Dark clouds, Cold breeze and the murmur of passing wind. A few droplets accompanied by thunder close by. The branches shook and along swayed the leaves making the harrowed birds tweet aloud. Amidst the chaos, it was time for the Sun to set, perhaps the last time for him!

Today was the day of his Execution. The news of which had numbed him. The thought of which had crippled him. The judgment of his death had been decided a few months back. There had been a few who fought for his life but to no avail. The case against him was bleak, but the people against him were powerful. Alas! He must die today.

“Where did I go wrong?

What did I do to hurt anyone?

When was the last time I spoke ill about anyone?

Why is this happening to me?

What can I do to escape this moment?

Is it me or my sins?

Why is the Law quiet?

Where has Justice been lost?

Why are the people mum?

What happened to those who loved me? Or did they?

When was the last time I felt so helpless?

Why ME!!???” he asked himself with a worried face, teary eyes and a heavy breathing heart.

He was born out of love. A slim and tender body with freshness all over his face while he grew up. He was always shy…perhaps an introvert. The one who would not talk much and would be more than glad to be left on his own.

Said that he was always a keeper. A lot of people confided their inner feelings to him, stories of happiness and dreams, sagas of heartbreak and failures. He was a calming source to one and all. He was also a giver. The one who would not care for his ‘What is in it for me?’ and would carry on his duties religiously. Now with a tall, sturdy and handsome-looking stature, he was finally being noticed. Acknowledgments and Praises from many, envy of a few. Perhaps, the enviousness led to this fatal moment!

It was time! The executioner was within his sight. He could see a few people around, albeit very few with any remorse. He knew his time was up. Taking a heavy breath, he closed his eyes for the last time. His entire life began to flash in his mind. Memories, smiles, people, and …….” THUD ” came the fatal blow! The time stood still and everything went silent.

First the leaves, then the branches and finally he collapsed. The Tree had died!!!
