Mumbai to Rameswaram, 1600km apart but it's journey triple the fun.
In 2013 Rohit Shetty film CHENNAI EXPRESS, Rahul Mithaiwala (Shah Rukh Khan) is sent to journey to Tamil Nadu to fulfil the last wish of his grandfather to have his ashes immersed in holy water of Rameswaram. Along the way he meets Meenamma (Deepika Padukone) who joins him on the journey to Rameshwarm.
Travelling via train and road to stop at most stunning places along the way is the best. Some featured places in movie, Chennai Express are, utterly beautiful Dudhasagar Falls (Goa)- is among the tallest waterfalls with height of 310m. Best for trekking and this four-tier waterfalls is best during monsoons. Located in Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park among Western Ghats. Particularly in Malshej Ghat, a mountain road in Western Ghats has featuring scenic views and variety of birds like flamingos.
Then comes, Rolling tea gardens of Munnar in Kerala- the hill station has more than 50 tea gardens. In this place, Chennai Express movie's hit song 'Kashmir Main Tu Kanyakumari' was shot. The velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountains added extra spices to the song.
Thirdly the little town of Pollachi (Coimbatore)- saddled along the Kerala border, this town gives the vibe of land of natural wealth and prosperity. The town also boasts among the tastiest tender coconuts one can taste both green and unique orange colored ones. Famous temple, Subramanya temple dedicated to Shiva's son Lord Kartikeya is also just an hour's drive away. A must see during a visit is Top Slip, a ideal picturesque location and picnic spot that offers elephant safaris.
In Vattamalai Muragan Temple is were most romantic scene takes place. Rahul Mithaiwala (Shah Rukh Khan) carries Meenalochni Meenamma Azhagusundaram (Deepika Padukone) in his arms while ascending 300 steps to reach a temple. This was done as a part of Vidamba village tradition for newlyweds, it is a sign that the husband will take care of his wife through out his life.
Lastly the iconic Pamban Bridge, a railway bridge which connects the town of Mandapam in mainland India with Pamban Island and Rameswaram. The view from this road with Indian ocean on one side and Bay of Bengal on the other side is breathtaking. Also the best mode of travelling would be by train as you could feel yourself gliding gently just few feet above the mighty blue waters of Bay of Bengal.
