Bright In The Dark - Colour Yellow

“When Ashin was admitted to our institution about 3 years ago, we were very apprehensive of how he would adjust and how we would support him. He was destitute, blind/deaf and dumb youth of 20 years”, says Muktha, the mother to scores of differently abled children – blind, hearing impaired, and those with multiple disabilities, deaf/blind, some of them orphan while some of them with families, for the last 20 plus years.

Muktha herself is physically disabled, as she lost a part of one of her feet in a freak accident and decided to start Mathru Educational Trust for the Blind, instead of wastefully living with depression or ending her life. Hundreds of blind students have passed out of her residential school, with flying colours and then she expanded her institution to extend her assistance to hearing-impaired children, children with multiple sensory disabilities and deaf/blind. She gets attached to each child and considers all of them her own children.

Thus, it didn’t take long for young Ashin to win her heart. He is very bright, intelligent, smart and sharp and won the love of all the other inmates, teachers, staff members and parents of students. He picked up all that was taught at the school and learnt Braille too. It is amazing how he communicates with his friends, teachers and others and quickly grasps what they say.

He is always chirpy, and happy and spreads positivity around him. All of them love him dearly. This reminded me of the colour yellow. However, fate has different plans. Recently, Ashin was diagnosed with kidney failure and is right now, going through dialysis. Muktha and the entire school community were shocked. Muktha has made very comfortable arrangements for his treatment and is taking care of him with love and concern. She is ably supported by her staff members, other students, their parents, her family, friends and donors.

Though Ashin has lost both his kidneys and everybody is very worried about his state, it is amazing to see Ashin totally spirited, participating in all activities of the school in a normal manner, spreading smiles and positivity all around him.

I pray that Goddess Durga blesses Ashin and he miraculously gets well soon. This extraordinary soul, who has nothing to rejoice about being destitute, being deaf/blind and having lost both his kidneys at such a young age but still spreads only happiness and cheer wherever he goes has to live long. All the doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff members of the hospitals where he is getting treated are pouring their love and concern on him and praying for his well-being.

Jai Matha Ji!
