Are Doctors God?

Ever since technology has evolved, it has also aided to manifold growth and development of medical sciences. I salute those team of doctors and scientists who have worked day and night endlessly to make things possible.

There are other set of doctors who think about their own pocket, their worth and their own expenses. They hardly take any interest in the patient's condition. In the name of high profile treatment and medicine, they would rather compel to empty your pocket.

With this belief, that Dr. Vandana will be of some help, Ritika and her husband Piyush went to her neo natal clinic, located in one of the posh localities of Delhi. They were sitting quietly in the lobby amidst the crowd, which was moving here and there with too much of commotion. Ritika, at first was intimidated on seeing people with multiple problems. She told Piyush, "It seems there is no humanity, look at that lady, she is in too much pain, still the doctor isn't attending her". Piyush knew the situation, but to pacify Ritika, he told her, "It's ok, don't pay attention there, let's wait for out turn". Piyush was very worried inside, but he didn't let it show on his face. Ritika was tired of sitting for long hours, so she went for a stroll around. During her stroll, she saw an open room where the doctor was attending one of the patients and rudely said, "Lie down, let me check, what is the condition of your foetus". It seemed as if the patient wasn't comfortable lying on that filthy bed, she said "Doctor I am not feeling comfortable, could you please arrange for a pillow for me?" The doctor shouted and told her, " This is not your bedroom, just keep lying for another half an hour".

Seeing this ill treatment of the patient, she felt extremely sorry for her and rushed back to Piyush. She told her that how the patients are being treated like animals. Piyush once again told her to calm down. Suddenly, Ritika's name was called out. She got goose bumps on knowing that she will have to undergo the same procedure that the lady had undergone. During her examination, the doctor was continuously moving in and out of the room, and in the meanwhile, she was instructing her new interns to read and write the observation on a piece of paper which was dangling with the help of an old clip on a dilapidated cardboard. They seemed to be too new to the profession, that they couldn't even read the data correctly. They were asking each other. Ritika was thinking, what if they note down some wrong observation and was in anger, but couldn't do anything. After few minutes, the doctor came in and started instructing another intern to go and check for the payment, as she was expecting rupees 12000 from one couple. She also said, "Please tell the receptionist to send in the couple who has higher degree of problems, so that they can pay. Tell her not to send mothers and babies with fever, stomach ache and cough". Ritika was listening to each and everything, she took out her mobile phone and turned in the recorder and kept it inside her jeans pocket.

After the examination, Piyush was also called at the reception. Now, this time, the doctor had called an experienced intern with a menu card and started explaining the pros and cons of the situation with cost of each treatment and equipment. The doctor continued, "See, you have two babies and it's been only two months. One of them is active and the another isn't, seems lazy though" There is a chance that one of them may have Down's Syndrome also. For that you have first undergo another treatment, which is too risky". Piyush questioned, "So ma'am how can we ensure the safety of both the babies?". The doctor told him in a taunting way, "Why to have two babies, look at your wife, she is too weak to have twins". "So, as a safety measure, we will be terminating the baby who isn't much active and for that a surgery would be required". Ritika demanded, "Why a surgery? Why can't we have both the babies?" She started crying, Piyush held her hand tightly so that was doesn't lose her control.

Doctor tried to convince both of them for the surgery because it would cost them around 75 thousands as per the menu card kept on the table. This made clear that rather than helping new couples with their first babies, she was running a business.

They went back home and contacted their friends who were in the same profession and seeked second opinion. After multiple visits to the clinics, they came to know that her both babies were doing well and healthy. She realised that she was mentally harrassed by the doctor.

Ritika thought of lodging an FIR against the doctor and the entire management. As an evidence, she provided the recording of the doctor's instructions where she talked about bringing in only high profile patients who can pay them well.

After a week's investigation, the police finally sealed the clinic and Dr. Vandana's lisence also was cancelled.

A person like Dr. Vandana had completely shattered their faith. They also knew that all doctors are not like her. It may take them years to restore their trust.
