An Incidence That Changed My Life

 As they say, change is only constant in life. We keep changing continuously, while most of the changes are happening in the background imperceptibly, some changes are very obvious and shake you up to the core. This was when I was in class 11&12. I was very regular in studies, self-disciplined and hardworking with a consistent track record. I was studying life sciences out of my choice and used to be very good at drawing records so much so that in the three hours allocated for the practical sessions in addition to completing my record work, I used to help one or two of my classmates with their work. I was aware that I was neglecting Zoology theory portions. All of us in the class used to feel that the zoology teacher’s way of teaching made the subject very boring and drab. We would attend her class but pay the least attention to what was being taught. Within no time the final examinations were fast approaching and to my horror when I opened the textbook to study everything appeared like Greek and Latin. With great difficulty, I completed most of the syllabus in about 20 days and managed to write the exams.

The time I spent after exams till the declaration of results was most unnerving and taught me valuable lessons. Everyday I would evaluate the paper mentally and calculate the marks that I could expect. Most of the time I was convinced that I would get the required marks. All the holidays were gone in fear, that was when I realized that it is our responsibility to clear the subjects and pass the exams, however good or bad the teacher might be. Failure is our loss and it does not affect the teacher. If I failed it would be for the first time and I would disappoint my parents. The feeling of guilt and remorse were unbearable. That was the last time I blamed the teacher for lacking interest in any subject. Finally, the results were out and I passed with 5 marks more than the required pass mark. From then on I developed the habit of being prepared well ahead of time and be ready to face any exams including Job related challenges also in the latter days.
