"All Good?_ The Promise We Kept In 5D"
"All Good?_ The Promise We Kept In 5D"
Tikli was not someone who made friends in office easily.
Adi was someone who openly said, "Colleagues can never be friends."
And yet, fate put them in the same project, same standup call, same annoying client.
It started with work.
Adi was the reserved one. Short tempered, sharp with work, never wasted words. If someone did nonsense, he would give them left, right and centre. Everyone in the project knew - don't mess with Adi.
Tikli was the soft one. Bengali girl, warm, talkative, the one who would send a hug emoji just because someone helped her with a small bug.
For months, they were just colleagues. Then one day, Tikli's release failed at 8 pm and she was stuck. Adi stayed back.
"Ho gaya? Send me the logs," she said.
He fixed it in 20 minutes.
Tikli, overwhelmed, sent - "Thank you so much 🤗😘"
Adi stared at his screen for a long time. He had never got a hug and kiss emoji for fixing a log. He didn't know what to reply. So he replied with a laughing emoji.
"😂😂"
Tikli started pulling his leg. "Itna has kyun raha hai?"
And that laughing emoji became their language.
Slowly, the daily check-ins started.
Different cities, different projects later, but still - one of them would ping.
"hey all good?"
Just three words. Always in that same soft, calm, composed voice if it was a voice note. Tikli found it adorable.
"all good, tu bata?" Adi would reply.
They would check each other's WhatsApp status every day. Never like, never comment. But both knew.
One day Tikli opened WhatsApp and Adi's DP was gone. Blank. Her heart dropped.
She immediately pinged.
Tikli: "Adi? All good na? Tune number delete kar diya kya mera?"
Seen. Within 2 minutes, a new DP appeared. Adi in a cap, face slightly covered, gym picture.
Adi: "Pagal hai kya? Tera number kyun delete karunga? Mera hi privacy setting hil gaya tha. Dekh, laga diya wapas."
Tikli smiled. She knew that cap trick. Shy guy wants to show he's changed DP for her, but too shy to show full face.
Adi: "Ab khush? Check kar liya status?"
Tikli: "Haan, haan, bada handsome lag raha hai topi mein."
Adi: "😂😂 chup kar."
That was their love. No big confessions. Just small proofs.
Then came the Spider-Man incident.
Adi had gone for a trek near Hyderabad. He posted a status - standing on the edge of a terrace, one leg in the air, Spider-Man pose.
Tikli saw it at 11 pm and lost it.
She called. Full scolding mode.
"Tu pagal hai kya? Dimaag kharab hai tera? Waha koi railing bhi nahi hai! Gir jaata toh? Tereko hero banna hai?"
Adi listened. For 4.5 minutes. He let her bash.
Any other person and Adi would have shouted back - "Meri life hai, tujhe kya?"
But with Tikli, he just waited.
Then softly he said, "Ho gaya tera? Aur kuch bolna hai?"
Tikli: "Haan, abhi bhi baki hai! Tu kabhi nahi sunta!"
Adi smiled on the other side. "Arey, woh safe terrace tha, yaar. Neeche doosri building ka roof tha. Pose hi toh tha. Don't worry about me, Tikli."
That one line. _Don't worry about me._
Tikli went silent. Because she knew he had understood. He understood her scolding was not anger, it was fear. Fear of losing him.
Adi: "Tune itna daanta, ab toh tere liye kal se terrace pe bhi nahi jaunga. Khush?"
Tikli: "Good."
That night, Tikli couldn't sleep. So she sent him a voice note. 4.5 minutes. Everything - her childhood, her fears, how she trusted him more than anyone in office.
She woke up at 2 am, panicked. Seen. No reply. She deleted it for everyone.
Next morning, she was scared - what if he judges her? What if he tells Sonia or someone else?
Adi pinged.
Adi: "Tikli, sun. Jo bhi tune bheja tha, it will be completely between you and me. Tu jaanti hai, jo tu bolti hai, main kabhi kisi ko nahi bolta. So chill. I got you."
Tikli's eyes filled up. In a corporate world where every chat gets forwarded, this guy was a locker.
Tikli: "Thank you, Adi. I was so scared."
Adi: "Darr kyun rahi hai mujhse? Main hoon na."
Those months in the same project were their 5D world.
Late night chats after shift. Tikli asking, "Kya pehen rahe ho kal client call ke liye?" Adi asking, "Tikli, ye camisole kya hota hai? Meri behen ke liye lena hai, samajh nahi aa raha."
Any other guy would make it awkward. Adi just asked. Because with Tikli, there was no awkwardness.
Tikli: "Arre, tu ladkiyon ke section mein jaane se sharmata hai na?"
Adi: "Haan, thoda. Lekin tere saath toh jaa sakta hoon. Tere saath comfortable hai."
They planned everything. Trips to Coorg, bungee jumping in Rishikesh, trying Hyderabadi biryani together.
And the biggest plan - the Airport Hug.
Adi got a chance to come to Kolkata for a client visit. Plan not fixed yet, but he told Tikli first.
Adi: "Tikli, sun, main Calcutta aa raha hoon. Pehle tujhe bata raha hoon. Kisi ko nahi bataya."
Tikli: "Sachhi? Kab?"
Adi: "Date fix nahi hai, but jab aaunga, airport pe tu milegi na? Ek tight wala hug toh banta hai. Itne saal baad finally milenge."
Tikli: "Done. Pakka wala promise?"
Adi: "Pakka wala."
Tikli waited. Checked flights. Even thought what she would wear.
But life changed.
Projects changed. Cities changed. 7 months of no talking.
Then a birthday ping. Then a comment heart. Then again that same zest.
"Tum Hyderabad team outing ke liye aa rahi ho?" he asked one day, excited.
That excitement was still the same.
One evening, in our 5D world, it finally happened.
Tikli had moved to Kolkata permanently. Adi's flight landed at Netaji Subhash Airport at 6:30 pm. Rainy evening.
Tikli was there, in a yellow kurti, holding her phone tight, heart beating fast.
Adi came out, trolley in one hand, cap on, searching.
Their eyes met.
No more "all good?" texts needed.
Adi left the trolley there.
Tikli ran.
And they hugged. That tight one. The one they had promised 2 years ago. Not a formal colleague side-hug. A hug where all the unsaid things - the DP change, the scolding, the 4.5 minute secret, the status checks - all got a place.
Tikli: "Finally. Itna time laga diya?"
Adi, in that same soft, calm voice, close to her ear: "Aana toh yahi tha na. Thoda late sahi."
They didn't need to say I miss you. The hug said it.
Adi: "Ab bata, rishte wale tension lene wali ladki, ab kaisi hai?"
Tikli: "Ab nahi leti. Tu hai na tension lene?"
Adi laughed. "Haan, hamesha."
In this 5D world, there was no Sonia, no marriage pressure, no POSH policy, no "colleagues can't be friends" rule.
There were just two people - Tikli and Adi - who found a strange, soft, respectful, adorable kind of love in a corporate world full of JIRA tickets.
They walked out of the airport, sharing one umbrella, still pulling each other's leg.
Adi: "Yaar, ab shopping toh chalna padega. Wapas camisole wala doubt hai."
Tikli: "Chal, ab toh poore mall mein ghoomaungi tujhe. No more shyness, okay?"
Adi: "Okay, madam. Jaisa aap bolo."
And the city lights blurred behind them.
Ending note: Some promises don't need to happen on time. They just need to happen with the right person, in the right world.
