I once had the privilege of trekking in the Himalayas. This was in the year 2016 and the place was Binsar sanctuary near Almora in Uttarakhand in India. It was June and monsoon had just set in. The altitude was about 9000 feet above sea level level and as it was raining, although it was 3 PM in the afternoon it was a chilling 5 degrees centigrade. The jungle was dense and known for having wild animals. There was not a soul in sight and I kept moving only due to sheer determination to reach the other end.

Jungle noises kept me on edge but luckily except for the odd monkey or deer at a distance I did not encounter any wild animal as it was daytime. Also, thankfully, the signposting was good so I did not lose my way and after a shivering and nail-biting three hours, I managed to reach the other end of the sanctuary where hot tea was waiting to cool my jangled nerves. This was an incident that brought out the love of nature, adventure and keeping fit as well. I have been for more treks after this one but none has been so exciting or tough. I will always mark this as one of my best treks.
