My story today is on my life long affair with music. I have always been attracted to instrumental music, especially the percussion instruments like the mridangam in Carnatic music. The Veena which my mother played so well is also one of my favorites.

Listening to classical instrumental music in childhood has been one of my favorite memories and would literally make my day. In those days there was no TV, so we would listen to the radio, later when the cassettes and diskettes came we had music on demand much to our enjoyment. I still remember when we would also accompany our parents to the temple to listen to a concert till late in the night and then would be carried back on my father's shoulder, fast asleep. I times of stress, there is nothing better than music to de-stress and lift one's spirits.

Unfortunately after we grew up, things changed a lot and we could not attend the concerts but thankfully with the advent of the internet, we have access to music now at our finger tips, quite literally and never fail to seek solace in its sublime bliss. I thank my parents for having imbibed this habit in us to enjoy the simple things in life and find happiness in them. As they say, a life devoid of music is like being color blind and not being able to enjoy the simple joys of life. Life devoid of music is certainly poor and not worth living, isn't it...?
