'Have a goal clearly in mind, something you really want; believe in yourself and be persistent, and don't allow yourself to be distracted. In business, in family life, in sports, in politics, follow these simple rules, and your chances of succeeding are astronomically high,' understood Margaret Thatcher.

There is no denying that books teach us something - be it fiction or non-fiction. But when it comes to business, management, or know-how, of course, the intention is to teach us something. Although Dale Carnegie had left this world long back his books have never lost their sheen till now. Covering a variety of topics, he had written a lot from business to handling everyday life. His lessons are true and applicable and the concepts discussed are easily deployable even today.

I picked up 'The Leader in You' after getting bored of reading so much fiction. I casually took up this book and being a pocketbook made it particularly alluring. But after reading through some of the pages I could realize how true the concepts being discussed are; when followed, how distinguished I would be, standing out from the lot. It's not rocket science that's discussed in this book. But concepts that anyone can follow if they truly wish to make a mark in their personal or professional life.

Taking examples from various people who worked in different sections of organizations, this book aptly explains how each of them stood unique in their own way; how their traits made them different, and how that very trait made them true leaders in their field.

The examples provided promptly merge with the concept the author is trying to explain. All the examples discussed are true events that happened in people's lives and how that made a difference to that individual and to the persons involved is remarkable. The whole book is grouped into sixteen chapters and each chapter discusses one concept at length explaining them with real-life examples and its importance to incorporate into our lives.

Although this book feels like the one for management guys while reading it feels it's for almost anyone. The language is breezy and it flows easily. Even the most complex concepts were dealt with such simplicity that anyone can understand and implement them in their own lives.

How one's interaction with the other person makes a difference? How listening actually makes us reliable from the speaker's point of view? Why having good communication is indispensable across all levels? Everything is dealt with such apt explanation that you would want to get back to this book as and when required.

More than the book talks about making a mark among people, I learnt a great deal about how people respond when they are dealt with such care and respect. Yes, talking from that angle, I felt like it was about interpersonal relationships and the basic psychology of humans. As I delved deeper into it, my mind became clear about how people respond to criticism and complaints, along with learning how to approach them, in order to explain that they did a mistake in a positive way.

Encouragement, enthusiasm, communication, active listening, and compassion are some of the important lessons that I have learnt while reading this book. Most of us would have already heard about all these but how implementing these in our everyday lives alters a person's overall caliber in carrying out what they want to achieve is something amazing.
