You are Mine and I am Yours

You are Mine and I am Yours

He said to her,

“I wonder whether you remember the day,

When I stood with bated breath,

To utter those three words to be said to you.”

She smiled while settling her white hair with her hands and replied,

“What a thing to ask!

 Of course, I do.

But for some other reasons, I tell you.

I remember it for your nervous smile,

The droplets of sweat on your forehead,

And those deep brown eyes of yours which entreated me,

To break the ice and help you to go ahead.”

He protested and said,

“That’s not true!

From what I felt then,

You felt it too!

Don’t you agree with me that you always knew,

That I truly meant to say those three words that day to you?”

With a mock surprise in her eyes, she said,

“Well, well, well,

Was that your plan?

But as much as I can remember now,

You did what you can.

May I remind you,

That you skipped that part,

Where you had to say to me ‘I love You', clear and loud,

And instead, very softly muttered something,

What I am sure could not be heard!”

He looked at her now again with those deep brown eyes,

That did not let her that day to think twice,

Before saying those three words to him.

As now she could feel,

The rising rhythm of her throbbing heart,

She lowered her eyes and said finally,

“When both your language and courage failed,

To say to me what must be said,

I then said those very words to you,

By taking the plunge of faith.

How I could not let you know,

That you are mine and I am yours.”
