Winter Of Discontent..

Winter of Discontent...

The long hours, the dark days,

The unrelenting cold,

North winds with icy fingers,

Freezing all it touched.

The road is long and empty,

Foliage lay under cover of the white shroud,

The person stumbled along,

Falling and muttering to himself.

His daughter lay in the chill of death,

Scarce savings he had, except a bit of land,

Wife had passed long ago,

No support he had, for the girl

On the contrary, looked after him.

She waited with teary eyes,

Not for herself but if something happened,

How would he survive,

While he walked along, boarded houses,

People peering and wondering,

What adversity could this man have,

To leave his hearth and walk on the cold street,

But none came forward.

The sole medicine shop was around the corner,

But it was taking a heavy toll,

On the father, to walk in the frigid winter night,

To his dismay, the shop was closed.

Desperate was he, how will she recover,

No money he had to get a doctor,

Frozen tears kept smudging his face,

He would have offered a thousand deaths,

To see his sweetheart live well,

But in vain he cried for help.

How could he face her, as he struggled with grief,

His house was lit by a small fire,

To his amazement, he saw a person kneeling in front of his daughter,

'Who are you, dear man?"

To which his daughter replied in a faint weak voice,

"Papa, he is a doctor, who was passing by and heard my cry,

He has given me some medicines."

To which his father hugged the person,

Crying inconsolably.

Angels come in various forms,

And especially when one is despondent

And helpless,

God sends His Messenger,

The season of giving,

The biggest gift of the believer, the magic of the unseen,

For his flame kindled again,

And with tears clouding his vision,

He saw his little one smiling,

And at rest, while distant chimes,

Christmas resonated in the small cottage.
