Where Are The Snacks?

Where Are The Snacks?

Today in the morning,

Mum was in a mood,

She glared at us suspiciously

And I knew that I was screwed.

As soon as I finished my breakfast,

She made a declaration,

‘Someone’s been polishing off all the snacks at night,

And now we have to ration!”.

All eyes threw daggers at me,

“Don’t hold me responsible!”

I retorted indignantly.

I decided I would camp out in the pantry that night.

The clock struck twelve and I was jolted out of my sleep,

By the crinkling of cellophane,

‘HA!’ I shouted as I ambushed the intruder,

He dropped his candy cane.

I shone my flashlight in his face…

I couldn’t believe my eyes,

For Dad was standing in front of me,

As if he was paralyzed!

“Dad!” I whispered in shock,

“What’re you doing here?”

“Er… nothing.” He said shiftily,

But on his face, there was a little fear.

I put two and two together,

“You’re supposed to be on a DIET!”,

I exclaimed vehemently,

He looked at me shamefully, though he was quiet.

“Well… can you keep my secret?”, he pleaded to me,

I had no other choice but to agree.

From then on, I held my dad’s secret,

And life carried on,

My mother never found out

How the snacks had gone.
