TO MY DARLING DAUGHTERS
TO MY DARLING DAUGHTERS

When they gave me dolls dressed in satin
Pretty baby houses, tiny cups and kettle
When they taught me to play with them
Little did I know that it was to prepare me
To manage a kitchen and children in future
At my wedding when they dressed me
With the golden necklace, jingling anklets
Little did I realise that the necklace, anklet
All were nothing but my bonds for life
Not to raise my head, to think of freedom
But to my daughters, I made sure to give
Many books to read, ships, planes to play
Will not bond them with jewels heavy, tight
Gave a pen to write, wings of freedom to fly
And open a new, free sky, for every girl
