The Treasure Trove of Memories

Memories are aplenty, most of them are cherished

While some are unforgettable and surface along with them-

The first time I went on a tour in my uncle’s car

Those glorious moments when I received prizes in school

And looked at my parents with pride

The joy and sense of achievement that I got

Every time I stood on the stage as a topper of the class

The lovely time that I spent in school with all my friends

The deep sorrow that engulfed me 

When I had to depart from all my friends from school 

The excitement and nervousness that I experienced

When I first entered a co-ed college

The happiness and pride I enjoyed when I achieved accolades

The disappointment and sorrow that haunted me for days

When I faced hiccups in my education

The mixed feeling of achievement and sorrow that I experienced

When I had to shift to an evening college on securing a job

My entire career, with many unforgettable moments

Of difficulty, sorrow, fear, excitement, thrill, joy, achievement, satisfaction and pride

The shock and despair on my first big love failure in life

When I felt cheated, let down and dumped

My anxiety, fear and expectations

When I entered my marital home

My joy and gratitude to God 

When I learnt of the good nature and strong character of my husband

My tryst in getting accepted by his family

My pains, disappointments, and hurt 

In adjusting to a strange lifestyle

My joy on the arrival of my first child

The wonderful moments of her growth

And the arrival of my second child

Brought more enchanting moments 

Of their progress, their bonding, their love, their innocence

Their time with me flew away very fast

They built their own nests, found their partners and set their homes

These are of course memories to be treasured

These are what keep me going in my empty nest

Reliving and relishing every single moment

Of my past life, I am able to move on

Putting aside my fear of the bleak future

My little grandson kindles all those golden moments

That I spent with my children when they were of his age

These are all my cherished memories!
