The Shadow Of Reflection

You understood my silence like none other,

Yet you disrupted it to create the chaos,

I loved you to the moon and back,

Only to burn in the fire of attachment.

They say to love the one who loves you back,

But were not we both in love to have an equal share of the sufferings?

Is it not true that you still breathe the memories of our togetherness?

Just that you cloak it from the worldly eyes.

We suffered, we lost, yet we never repent,

Cause what we had was priceless.

Even if shortlived, our story had the spark,

The spark that can make a life worth it.

The world never saw our pains or the thorns,

Perhaps the world never knew we loved each other,

And hence no one knew the sharp pangs of grief,

Except the nights soaked in pillows drawn wet by tears.

We never spent Valentine's day together,

Or, say a candlelit dinner,

All we had were long walks across roads never taken,

And talks under a starlit sky.

We were passionate enough to hate each other to the core of our existence,

Once decided you broke up with me and left me heartbroken. 

And then again we reunited for we had a spark which could not be put down.

And then I decided to move away and went away.

Heated arguments, late-night emotional texts,

None could fix the broken 'us'.

We separated paths and stopped talking,

But the flame lingers on.

We know we will never be in touch,

Or, we will never call ourselves the names that we called,

But can something end whose existence is unknown to the world?

That eternity we will keep safe from the world and bury deep in our memories,

And recollect the moments of joy at times of loneliness.
