The shackles of society

The shackles of society

Walking on the street alone or amongst a crowd,

May it be dawn, midday or sundown.

Their harrowing eyes never rest.

Deliberately glueing their stares onto the bodies of women,

To derive satisfaction from their apprehensive reaction.

Who are then told it is because of what they wear?

We are instructed from day 1, take someone along with you everywhere.

It's not you whom they don't trust but the society.

Oh, this society, where men are allowed to make comments, stare with disgust, and even touch?

To those women who are simply passing by.

Simply crossing the road to run their errands when a man has the audacity to pass remarks on her body.

Who allowed and normalised this society?

Where comfort for the other gender is not guaranteed?

Where women are locked in because they are afraid whether they might be the next man's conquest today.

Who gave them this right, to ruin mindsets and lives?

Most women leave their house with one worry running through their head,

will they be the next?

The next on the news and with their face showcased across all tv channels simply because they choose to exist.

The snare of the devil is upon those who blame the clothes and not the aggressive loathed.
