The Messy Monochrome

That pat on your back,

The warmth in the shack,

Hidden cookies in the upper rack,

It's true, the strength lies in the pack.

Some call it family,

Some call them friends,

It's a game of life we all love,

A game without a beginning or an end.

I found love in places unforeseen.

College and art mentors were really keen!

Who cares for someone else to be really seen?

I have a family beyond my own ever since my teens!!!

Blood is thicker than water they say,

It may be true, maybe it's not my only way.

Life isn't going to be kind everyday.

So, love your family each day.

It could be anything for that matter,

Work, or children, neighbors, or a stranger...

A family is the one where you feel loved,

Not betrayed, belittled or a sense of danger.

One feels love at home, cherishes that feeling to be at home!

It's your little cocoon, your warm dome...

Nothing's perfect, it's a messy monochrome!

Is the love real or another Stockholm syndrome?

The need to be free overrides everything.

And then you want to be caged yet again.

Maybe that's what a family is all about...

Those are your roots without a doubt!

That long distance call preferred over a lavish dinner table.

That humble new year celebration... Sounds familiar?
