The Lady Next Door!!
The Lady Next Door!!
The pitfalls of working as a crime reporter,
Often required me to travel, in pursuit of adventure,
At best I would have stayed in a place for a year,
When it was time, I bid farewell without a tear.
I was happy and content with bachelorhood,
Till I landed up in my present neighbourhood,
My whole world suddenly turned upside down,
The reason? A lady, unlike any, I met downtown.
Tall and attractive she walked with a rhythmic gait,
Brushing off the strands falling on her lovely face,
Her pleasant personality added to her elegance and grace,
I was drawn to her, like a magnet sucked from its case.
Time after time, of her, I could only catch a glance,
In thin air she would vanish, each time I advanced,
Then one day my heart skipped a mighty beat,
I stepped out on the porch, I was in for a visual treat!
There she was!! Standing right next to my abode!
She was my neighbour, she lived next door!
Thereafter I looked for reasons to stay back at home,
The centre of my world, she had now become.
Everything about her was shrouded in mystery,
That made me more curious, I pursued her resolutely,
I knocked at her door when I couldn't stand the distance,
The knob turned, I was greeted by an eerie silence.
True to her nature, once again, she had disappeared,
I stood pondering when I saw her climbing up the stairs,
It was now or never, this was my only chance,
I followed her blindly, I was a man in a trance.
The boards were creaky, the rooms shabby, unkempt,
Not enough to deter me, I was bent upon unlocking her secret,
Her fragrance churned my senses, her steady breath I could hear,
Though she was not visible, of her presence I was so damn sure.
Then I saw a life like picture, of her, hanging on the wall,
It was so real, she was truly dancing at the ball,
I stood admiring her, couldn't take my eyes off her face,
Then I heard the whispers, she was calling out my name!
On the table below I saw a tattered, old, newspaper,
An highlighted article, which displayed her lovely picture,
It said, "You are my life, I will always love you my dear,
Rest in peace my darling, till I join you there".
