Taboo

I'm not impure,

Don't keep me away from holy places.

I'm not abnormal,

It's something that happens to me every single month.

I'm not untouchable,

Stop isolating me for a week every month.

Please don't judge the blood stains on my white skirt,

Trust me, it wasn't intentional.

I've been battling with the period cramps and heavy flow for a week,

Yes I know, my smile can hide that well.

Don't give me "the dirty stares",

Everytime I go to the medical store and purchase a sanitary pad.

There's no need to make a fuss about it,

If I don't bring a sanitary pad packet 'covered' up in a piece of newspaper.

Please don't judge me,

Everytime you have to bear with my mood swings.

Trust me it's not a taboo,

Menstruation is normal.

Every month I fight this battle,

You've never seen me complain, have you?

Don't feel awkward everytime I talk to you about "it",

Well, that's exactly how my body works.

Being a woman might sound easy to you,

My question is, would you be able to survive after bleeding continuously for, an entire week?

You gross out everytime you see me bleed,

Dear oh dear! How can you forget?

"It is the same blood,

That piles up in our bodies;

To hold you,

For nine, long months."
