Spinning Wheel

Spinning Wheel

"Oh what a tangled web we weave"*

Leave them like cobwebs hanging

Tucked away in mind's closets deep

Consciously never want to sweep

Caught as preys of our own making

Rehashing events keeping them alive

What never happened but wish it had

Marriage vows that never were said

Kiss that never sealed the union

Bridal gown that never was worn

Bridal bed never slept on

Lace negligee never was bought

Series of images run in dreams

Winding like spool of an old film

Too late now to untangle the knots

Web and warp of life spun wrong

Lost that one unripened chance

Trust had eroded in men in masks

Old spinster rocking back and forth

Watches sunset from her porch

Reminiscing what could be, but was not
