Ruth knew that onions can't be chopped with a blunt knife,

that butter can't be melted inside a working freezer,

that a bus cannot always be chased on foot.

Ruth knew that humans cannot breath underwater naturally,

that people tend to look at their feet while telling lies,

that a piece of chocolate is not designated to be sweet.

Ruth knew that not all rocks are heavy,

that not all papers are blank,

that not all roads are taken.

Ruth knew that teal doesn't always go with burgundy,

that plastic is not always dangerous,

that penguins and polar bears do not live on the same pole.

Ruth knew that telephones are not the only medium of conversation any more,

that not all letters are delivered to the right address,

that not all people she writes to know how to read.

Ruth knew that not all men are treacherous,

that not all women are monolithic victims,

that not all baggage is worthy of being carried.

But Ruth wondered at a lot of things.

Ruth wondered if onions are so important to the recipe she loves,

If butter was supposed to be solid or liquid,

If bad things would happen if she fails to catch the bus.

Ruth wondered if it is actually water or the emotional weight humans carry makes it difficult for them to breathe,

If truth is written on feet, and it gets lost in translation,

If people choke to death while eating chocolates.

Ruth wondered if rocks were once feathers that bared humiliation for years,

If something is written on blank papers with invisible ink

If roads not taken were actually stairways to heaven.

Ruth wondered if someone wears teal and burgundy in the same outfit,

If plastic is one the components of skin,

If ice is also different on both the poles.

Ruth wondered if only the receiving end of her telephone was functional,

If there was something wrong with her telephone, that she could hear everything but couldn't ever be heard by anyone,

Ruth wondered if something was wrong with her

Ruth wondered if all men were in unison,

If all women had same freckles on their shoulders as hers,

If baggage had important stuff hidden in it that she may need from time to time.
