Riding Down The Memory Lane

Riding Down The Memory Lane

3 mins
248

She got an unexpected call,

It was none other than from an old pal.

With a little surprise and utter curiosity,

She tried to memorise the person's identity.

Had enough reasons to get flabbergasted,

And bewildered for what she discovered.

He addressed her 'buddy' and asked,

"Why didn't we meet each other at all in the days passed?

"All these years I've been waiting to have a glimpse of you,

To find out whether you are the same you,

To show you how I have with me your inconvertible currency of love, and I still gather.

My eager eyes want to see the same young girl,

That loved you, still loves you, and this love will always prevail.

And my arms? Never ever could hold you, embrace you,

My hands, that could never touch your hair or rosy cheeks in my dreams view."

She recollected all those sporadic reminiscences of all those old days,

Lost in the memory lane that had no further trail.

When they met, talked and befriended each other,

In those innocent adolescent interactions galore.

For her, he was no doubt, the dearest among all,

That she liked him the most, despite a brief scandal.

It left her senses numb and vision blurred,

When she silently heard his voice over the phone and reckoned.

He was definitely a self -consumer of his own owes,

But it was his immense courage and confidence that still grows.

Things he could have easily forgotten with the passing days,

When the growing age always teaches to forget and ignore such craze.

Forty long years have passed without any direct contact,

Both busy in pursuing their goals in life in fact,

And now all of a sudden this endeavour to renew the contact,

Seemed surreal as she rubbed her eyes to wake her up from the dreams overnight.

Often she had tried to speak to the breeze and to the falling drops of rain,

To whisper a word about her passion, love, and emotions in the chain,

Often asked the rotating earth to stop for a while so that she can maintain,

Her balance and draw a map or locate a place not so mundane,

To track her route, to lead her way to the same old terrain.

That leads to the mountain-scape where they ventured once,

To capture and freeze the bygone mystic moments of relevance,

That they spent together and wandered aimlessly or in prance,

The days in which they smiled heartily and looked at each other with a glance.

But the next moment she recovers and the feelings slowly disappear,

As she contemplates, ponders over the reality to move ahead further,

There are certain relationships that do not last forever,

Even though we try our best to reconcile or pursue to move closer.

She prefers to be a loner and not to invite troubles from the various corner,

Since we humans live in society and are governed by its rules and the rules are rules as ever.

Isn't it strange? She thought in a pensive mood and the feelings ebbed out in a way,

While his lady luck never smiled on him we can undoubtedly say,

Regardless of the immense love, he couldn't have the courage to say,

All his feelings, all his emotions and his long voyage of love sank in the bay.

Not even once, he lost his spirit and nothing dampened his zeal all these days,

Only his stories remained hidden in his memory and never saw the light of the days.

She inadvertently kept the phone on her unmade bed,

Without real intent, she checked her thoughts to be dead,

Though she never wished them to be out of her mind or to be dead,

While the phone kept ringing and unwillingly she ignored, disheartened.

Yet she couldn't keep him out of her mind,

Despite desperate measures to keep herself restrained,

He was more than a friend who inculcated the ethics of friendship till the end,

An affable person, a relative man who can never be dumped in the memory lane.
