Revathi
Revathi
It was the third month of 1951,
In the sleepy town of tambaram
A cute chubby baby was born
With twinkling eyes and lots of charm!
The little child was named Revathi
And yes, the way she has lived is praiseworthy
She shines in every role she plays,
Whatever be the challenge she stands unfazed
Her mother exuded a calm strength,
They both shared the same wave length
She taught her to “Give, Give, Give”,
And that’s the mantra she has always lived.
Her fondest childhood memories are
at their old staircase,
Gazing at naughty monkeys and
people working through life's maze,
A caring sibling, an affectionate daughter
A sincere and loyal person like no other,
An intelligent and peaceful girl,
Her intellect always shone like a pearl
As a young girl with dreams in her eyes,
She got married to a man kindhearted and wise,
He loved her purely with all his heart,
Together a lovely future they began to chart
Little by little, twig by twig,
They built their loving nest,
They took care of everyone,
They were true soulmates; unlike the rest
Soon came happy moments and tensions,
She worked very hard; there was no cushion,
As a working woman and a homemaker,
She never gave up; excelled; no setbacks could break her
A truly devoted and loving wife,
She always knew his mind, they rarely had a strife
He was her rock and she his anchor,
He always appreciated and encouraged her
I know her best as my mother,
Her love is unconditional, all weather,
When I talk she's all ears,
She knows my hopes, dreams and fears
Her soft cotton saree pallu
made me feel safe and secure,
She is always there for me,
To agree, disagree, bicker and reassure
Getting up early, staying up late,
Making sure assignments were up to date
Whipping up delicious and sometimes midnight meals,
Watching cartoons together and laughing to peals
She's a grandma so sassy and cool
So very smart and can't easily be fooled,
Her IQ, EQ, AQ, CQ are at another level,
She's a woman who's truly special!
Her oldest granddaughter shares the same vibe,
"Ammamma" is one of her tribe
Her humour and know-how of everything under the sun
Amuse and enthrall the second one
The youngest hugs and rests on her elbow to recharge,
Ammamma's heart is so kind, warm and large
She wears many hats,
adorned by many feathers,
She goes out of her way
to bring joy to others
A meticulous professional,
A traditional individual,
An awesome game show host,
An interesting writer, a super woman, almost
Recently she suffered a loss irreparable
A pain and heartache incomparable
But she still puts on a brave face
Every morning she pushes herself to brace
She never got a chance to be vulnerable
There was no time, no option to be miserable
She smiles yet there is sadness in her eyes,
She's trying to stay strong, but her drooping shoulders belie
She is a survivor, a warrior
But behind the strong exterior,
Wonders a broken, aching heart,
Why did he go so soon, why did they have to part?
She is slowly picking up the pieces,
Trying to accept and make peace
She tries to carry on for her loved ones,
He's her guiding star, shining bright like the sun
There’s a lot to be learnt from her,
And a lot she can unlearn too,
She's not perfect, she need not be,
For him, she will always be his dearest RB..
