Ranjeet Nagara(Kettledrum)
Ranjeet Nagara(Kettledrum)
Guru Gobind Singh has rightly been called
A saint soldier of India, having qualities of both
God sends saviours from time to time
To destroy evil and uphold righteousness
He thought that he had a mission
To perform in his own country where
People suffered under the yoke of
Religious and political tyranny of Mughals
Aurangzeb didn't allow anyone to ride
a horse grow beard and wear a turban
Guru Gobind Singh defied him by using canopy,
Throne, flag, nagara and wearing turban
He got made one big leather studded drum
It was played in routine twice a day to summon
The gathering of sikhs by him at Anandpur
It's sound was heard by all far and wide
This drum was called 'Ranjeet Niagara and
it is still kept in some of the gurdwaras
It is played with sticks during Sangat's ardas
Sangat's ardas is a group prayer by all present
The Hindu rulers of adjoining mountain ranges
Nurtured fear as well as jealous on this account
They feared Aurangzeb could question for not
stopping it and they also feared aggression
They thought that Guru Gobind Singh was
About to challenge them politically as a rival
Though Guru had no such plan and intention
His motives were purely social and spiritual
The worldly show off and grandeur was to
Enthuse his followers with confidence
Courage and dignity to be able to stand
against any sort of suppression and tyranny
Ranjeet means victorious in battlefield
Ranjeet nagara means drum of victory
Such practices helped awaken the
Consciousness ot the general masses
