The morning paper greets your eyes
The miserable image breaks more than your heart
Your trust and belief in human nature
Shaken yet again, questioning what we really are?

An emaciated child clutching a packet of biscuits
A situation where care givers turn oppressors
Nothing matters, neither life nor basic self respect
What can heal these innocent souls, who survived this curse

We complain about kids who refuse to eat
Food lacking in taste to be disposed away freely
All the while, there exists a dark hungry world
Where even basic food is a luxury

This will be another sorry tale, life will go on
We will shake our heads and hope they rise out of their living hell
But while we count our own blessings, let us also try
That some of those blessings pass their way as well..
