Oceans....Earth's Blood

Some may say Celsius, some may say Fahrenheit,

But no matter in what units, the temperatures are on a rise.

The earth has developed a fever, heating up our oceans and our skies,

And every minute we spend unresponsive is a minute lesser until the world dies.

It may seem easier if we view the earth as a human,

With the lungs as the forests, and the blood as the oceans.

We, humans, are like the virus, infecting our planet,

Causing global warming – the fever spanning beyond the transatlantic

With a disease come consequences, ones which must be accepted,

So they are born by the earth’s ‘blood’ – the oceans become infected.

Infected with the carbon they soak, and infected with the heat they take in,

The lifeline of the earth, quickly becoming more like a dustbin

But even as our earth’s oceans serve like the loyal knight,

An organism surviving without its ‘blood’, is an unwinnable fight.

Therefore, as the oceans are acidified, heated and polluted,

The disease persists, with symptoms like extreme weather and sea levels rising included.

If there is any hope at all in curing this disease,

Restoring the oceans must be one of our main policies.

With renewed ‘blood’ the earth will obtain revival,

Through the blood’s special antibodies:

Salt marshes, mangroves, and tidal power,

Who will naturally contribute to earth’s survival.

So we must protect our oceans – our lifelines with immeasurable worth,

Because our earth needs its ‘blood’, as much as we need our earth.
