My Painting and My Poems!

My Painting and My Poems!

“Play with your colours as you play with your words”

My art teacher said that day when I was trying to paint,

The same art piece for the third consecutive day,

Have to put in some more colour to complete it, I felt!

Playing with words is so easy I feel, unlike the colours,

As I sit down to type, in a jiffy, it just gets done,

As the thought would be processed before in my head,

I have to just put it down on paper and organize it a wee bit!

But with the paintings, it starts from scratch,

First, think of the picture and draw it out to perfection,

Then start to paint a dull first coat to cover up the canvas,

Then the middle tone and the darkest tone to detail it out!

Plus all this can’t be done just any or all the time,

First, you need a calm peaceful mind to think of paints alone,

Then a proper calm place to spread out your work,

After putting everything else aside, you need to sit down to work!

And mind you, this is just the beginning,

This has to be repeated every now and then,

With at least one hour at a stretch every single time,

Only with dedication, time and patience, your work will get ahead!

Now, I realized that painting teaches us a lot of patience,

You need it from the beginning till the very end,

To draw, to paint, the first coat, the final coat, the minute details,

For every little thing, even the smallest hairline stroke is important!

The background is to be filled in too, can’t be neglected,

Colours have to be chosen and mixed correctly,

Before putting it on paper and blended well on the canvas,

Such that the merger line of different colours shouldn’t be seen at all!

The colours chosen have to be selected well and mixed well too,

They have to be spread and blended well within the lines drawn out,

Only then will the painting convey to my audience,

Just as my poems convey the exact meaning through!
